Science and religion

As the world becomes more and more secular, and the discoveries of evolutionary biology and cosmology shrink the boundaries of faith, the claims that science and religion are compatible grow louder. If you are a believer who doesn't want to seem anti-science, what can you do? You must argue that your faith or any faith is perfectly compatible with science.

And so one sees claim after claim from believers, religious scientists and even atheists asserting not only that science and religion are compatible, but also they can help each other. this claim is called accommodationism.

The difficulty in approaching the question of the relationship between religion and science is that its elucidation requires that we have in our minds some clear idea of what we mean by either term. We have to understand the type of connection existing between two spheres and then draw some definite conclusion representing the existing situation which at present confront the world.

Schloss realize that both terms rest on truth statements about the universe, the edifice of religion differs from science by additionally dealing with moral, purpose, and meaning, but even those rest on the foundation of empirical claims. In contrast to methods of science, religion adjudicated truth not empirically but via dogma, scripture and authority...in other words through faith which is defined as the evidence of things not seen in Hebrew 11. In science, faith without evidence is a vice, while in religion, it is a virtue.

We have here the two strongest forces which influence man and they seem to put one against the other...the force of our religious beliefs and the force of our impulse to accurate observation and logical deduction.

The question of the relationship between science and religion has been a subject of study for years, the question has attracted many scholars from various discipline who have contributed their quota concerning this issue. However, for argument sake and can say that there are three main opinions Which I shall be discussing in this article

Science is opposed by religion

This is a conflict hypothesis articulating that science and religion are incompatible. Draper is one of the leading exponent of this theory arguing that both terms have a been conflicts in three

  • Methodological Conflict

BY this, Draper meant peculiar approaches usually engaged by science or religion for ascertaining respective truth in which they believe. As stated earlier, science acknowledges reason, empiricism and evidence as the basis fun r accepting truth. While religion has revelation, faith and sacredness as the basis for its truth and belief.

  • Factual conflict

This refers to the disagreement of both on stated facts. The most fascinating is that of the creation narrative. religion attributed the work of creation to God, but science disagreed with this with their evolution theory.

  • Authority tussle

This explains the power tussle between science and religion as it asks the question of who should be the authority in ascertaining truth, science or religion.

To conclude this point, in summary, this model assumes that they are incompatible and only one I sent a legitimate source of knowledge

Science is included in the religion

this theory argues that they are both compatible and in a way, they are included in one another. Since significant portions of scientists are religious and the portion and the number of Americans believing in evolution is much higher

Both science and religion are important aspects of our lives.
