What's up fellow writers? Today which happens to be Monday marks the resumption of students at my college after we've all enjoyed our weekends at our various homes.
So, at college today, just like we've been having our industrial training for about two weeks now, we were taught on the production of bar soaps. We all should be familiar with a bar soap as we find it useful and important in our everyday life activities.
A bar soap is chemical substance mostly in a solid form that is made up of different chemical reagents which is used for the purpose of laundry, bathing etc at our various homes, offices and working places.
If you could remember I've been writing on articles regarding soap making. Yeah, they all fall under a topic termed "saponification". Saponification simply implies the formation of soap.
We were made to understand it's method of production (bar soap), it's formation, uses and importance. The following chemical reactants were used for the production of the bar soap;
Caustic soda
Fragrance oils
Sodium sulphate
Colorants
Water etc.
We were also made to take some preventive measures by ensuring to have the following;
Safety goggles
Rubber hand gloves
Long-sleeved laboratory cloth or aprons
Well ventilated laboratory for the experiment.
Also, some of the apparatus used today for the production were;
A mixing tank (A plastic bucket)
Stirrer (A wooden stick meant for stirring the mixture)
Moulder (a small plastic material used for moulding the mixture to form a solid product)
We all were shared into four (4) different groups, but this time around, we were instructed to perform the same experiment not a different one. We did as instructed by our supervisors and we all came out with very pleasant results of the experiment. Today actually was fun though hectic as usual but we learnt a lot of lessons from the training, those things we had little or no idea were properly revealed to us and we are very delighted to comprehend and put them into practice.
We were advised during the production, to ensure proper stirring of the mixture to avoid lumps in the solution. A lump is rice-like or even bigger appearance in the mixture of your solution when producing soaps. It's caused by excess application of fragrance oils or inadequate mixture of the solution. After the mixture and stirring of the different chemical reactants, we were instructed to leave the mixture in a cool and dry place for proper settling and moulding of the solution for four (4) hours.
So, I think that was all we had today at college, just decided to share my thoughts on this as it might be helpful to us too.
Thanks for passing by to read. You all should take care of yourselves and ensure to stay safe.
Until then, bye for now!!!
