OTHM Level 3 Award in Assessing Vocationally Related Achievement
This qualification is closely aligned with the specificationfor Assessment and Quality Assurance of Assessment originally developed byLifelong Learning UK (LLUK) after consultations with awarding organizations,Sector Skills Councils and learning and development experts. It is also alignedclosely with the National Occupational Standards developed by LLUK and enableslearners to gain the knowledge, skills and understanding to assess vocationalskills, knowledge and understanding in a variety of contexts, for example aworkshop, classroom or other training environment. OTHM Level 3 Award inAssessing Vocationally Related Achievement qualifications will enablecandidates in which they have experience and competence. The function of assessment in learning and development is toensure learning is taking place. It allows learners to demonstrate whatthey have learned and allows their work and knowledge to be monitored at anystage throughout the process. It also allows for the assessor to identify if thelearner is missing any understanding in order to focus on specific areas andreinforce learning. It also allows the learner to know how well they areprogressing. The whole assessment process needs to be recorded, this allowstransparency to ensure the standards set by the assessor’s organizationand, if a qualification is being undertaken, the criteria of the awarding bodyare both being met. It will allow the learner to be able to see their ownprogress and what else is required. The assessor should map the learnerswork against any criteria set to make sure everything is clearand understandable. The process needs to be consistent to match the workanother assessor would set and match any benchmarks set. Before startingthe learning process an initial assessment of the student is required, this shouldshow what knowledge or experience the learner already has on the subject. Itshould identify if they have any special requirements and may needadditional support, specifically if they have any barriers that could makelearning difficult. It should also show what level their knowledge is and ifthere is any additional learning required before undertaking, training, coursesor qualifications. It should allow the assessor to evaluate the learnerand should ensure the requirements are set at the correct level.

There are no formal entry requirements for thisqualification. This qualification is suitable for those who work within anysector where assessment forms part of the education and training cycle. Itprovides Learners with an opportunity to demonstrate their competence inassessing vocational achievement.
Equivalences
OTHM qualifications at RQF Level 3 represent practicalknowledge, skills, capabilities and competences that are assessed in academicterms as being equivalent to GCE AS/A Levels.
Qualification structure
The OTHM Level 3 Award in Assessing Vocationally RelatedAchievement consists of 2 mandatory units for a combined total of 10 credits.
Understanding the Principles and Practices of Assessment (4credits)
Assess Vocational Skills, Knowledge and Understanding (6credits)
Duration and delivery
The qualification is designed as flexible in its delivery inorder to accommodate part-time and distance learning. The qualification isdelivered face-to-face, through lectures, tutorials, seminars, distance, onlineby approved centres only.
Assessment and verification
All units within this qualification are internally assessedby the centre and externally verified by OTHM. The qualifications are criterionreferenced, based on the achievement of all the specified learning outcomes.
To achieve a ‘pass’ for a unit, learners must provideevidence to demonstrate that they have fulfilled all the learning outcomes andmeet the standards specified by all assessment criteria. Judgment that thelearners have successfully fulfilled the assessment criteria is made by theAssessor.
The Assessor should provide an audit trail showing how the judgmentof the learners’ overall achievement has been arrived at.
Progression
Learners who achieve this qualification could progress intoemployment as an assessor or onto to relevant qualifications such as Level 4Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice.
