Family is everything

Family is everything, even thought sometimes we might not see it. We usually tend to miss people more once they are gone or not that easy to reach and I can tell you that is 100% true, because I have been away from home for almost 4 years now and I miss my family more than ever.

This is why they say you should always appreciate what you have until it's still there and I totally agree. Your family is like your best friend, that takes care of you, supports you and is there for you at all times, through bad and good days. They love you unconditionally and only want to see you well and healthy.

What's sad is that we sometimes don't recognize these blessings until we no longer have them. Until you have to wake up alone one day, cook for yourself, do groceries by yourself, pat yourself on the back, which is a really upsetting picture to imagine. You will see then how often you will call home, maybe to ask your mother about a recipe, maybe to ask your dad how to fix something, maybe to hear your sibling laugh and being excited about what's been happening since you left. All of these things will break your heart and make you realize how much family means and how little attention you paid to it when you still had it around you.

Maybe it was a word you said or a door you slammed once but you regret it all now. You think about those times when you treated them so badly, a thought that makes you feel so much remorse, and you try to figure out a way to fix it all. But they forgot about it already. Family has a way of forgiving and forgetting bad things you did because their love for you is so unmeasurable, that no bad thing said or did by you can ever exceed the love they feel towards you.

Go hug your mom, take your sister or brother to get icecream together and spend more time with your dad, maybe even go fishing together. Listen to your grandpa's military stories and help your grandma make cookies. Love them from all of your heart and listen to what upsets them or makes them happy. Tell them everything you feel, bad or good. Help them as much as you can and make sure to come visit often. Don't forget about them because they are the only ones who will forever wait for you. To call them, come see them, think about them, ask them how their day was.
