Essay - Precious Things
XX Precious things can come in many forms. To sum it up, it’s something different for everyone. For some, it could be money, toys, memorabilia, and many more. It could also be things that aren’t solid, like memories. 37
XX The most precious thing I own is my 11-year-old music box that sits on my table. It is special because it was given to me by a person I saw as an older brother figure. Though he is gone, the music box always reminds me of the memories I share with him. 52
XX Dottore, my older brother, was 10 years older than me. He used to give me piggyback rides when we were at the park. I would pretend to be Tinkerbell and he would pretend to be Peter Pan. Those were fun times. 41
XX Back to the music box, he would spin the lever for a few seconds, then let go. An enchanting melody would come out and I would listen as the tune guided me to a blissful slumber. He said that and within a few minutes, I will be out like a light. 51
XX The music box is also a source of comfort to me. If I ever had a nightmare, I would take the music box, spin the lever, let go and let the melody comfort me. The melody has something unexplainable that would bring me comfort even during times when I feel like the world is against me. 56
XX The music box has a brown exterior. On the inside, there are many shades of blue, purple, and teal. The colours remind me of the Northern Lights. As for what’s in the box, well there are many things inside. For starters, there are small polaroid pictures of me, my family, and Dottore. There are also some small flowers I braid my hair with. I also keep some hairpins, hair nets, and hair accessories in there. 75
XX This is why a music box that seems so ordinary is my most precious item. It is something that brings me comfort and keeps the memory of my brother, Dottore. 30
