The painted stones are hand-carved and painted in a style that is 3D. They are made of a high quality polymer clay called Sculpey. The details in the faces are drawn with a fine point Sharpie Ink Pen.

In addition to being entirely handcrafted, each piece is hand-painted. The artists use an airbrush to apply several layers of paint for depth and detail. Then the piece is fired for several hours to set it permanently in place. Some pieces have multiple coats of paint for extra depth and detail.
