Behind the scene
If only one could evade the distress associated with learning and attending lectures, it'd have been a wonderful thing. Being a student is beyond just lectures, classes, and exams. It's beyond the learning activities that takes place in the school setting. There are several factors that when conglomerated, could deeply damage an individual as a student. The hardship and struggle for survival, psychological and emotional breakdown, emotional instability and immaturity, familial expectations, societal pressure, peer pressure, etc... These factors break a student before academics comes into the forefront.
Unfortunately, most parents aren't cognizant of these factors. The most germane thing to them is how you should graduate with a good CGPA and avoid bad friends. Hours are spent on the notion that the university is filled with bad people and you are the only Saint amongst them. The best way to show them you are thankful for their support is to abstain from bad people and graduate with good CGPA while being oblivious of the fact that they have misplaced and displaced priorities.
Students suffer a lot and go through hell just to make sure their parents are happy with them. Some who cannot cope with the "stress" most often breakdown psychologically or go through emotional instability thereby leading to mental incapacitation, cognitive impairment, which eventually leads to depression, suicide, addictions, etc... Misplaced priorities have done more harm than good to most students. It only takes a few strong and self-aware individuals to jump over these hurdles without much harm done to themselves.
The priority should be the safety of the child emotionally and psychologically before academics is considered. It takes an emotionally stable individual with a good psychological balance to cope with the stress associated with the pursuit of academic excellence in this country.
