Drivers often cannot see in a blind corner. With the help of a mirror on the curve, the approaching traffic can be recognized and accidents avoided. Likewise, man cannot really see an invisible Creator. Is there any way of knowing that there is?
A first century writer mentioned how we can perceive what we cannot see. He wrote: "The invisible attributes [of God] are clearly seen from the creation of the world, because they are seen by things that are done, even by their eternal power and divinity, so that they are inexcusable" (Romans 1:20) .
Think about it. Do you see intelligence in things around us that go beyond the human ability to create? Do these things help you to see with "the eyes of your understanding" that there is someone who is greater than man? Consider some examples (Ephesians 1:18, King James Version).
Learn from creation
Have you ever gazed at the splendor of a bright, starry sky on a moonless night and saw in it evidence of a great Creator? “Heaven proclaims the glory of God; and the expansion depends on the work of the hands, ”exclaimed an elderly observer. “When I see your sky, the works of your fingers, the moon and the stars that you have prepared,” this man pondered, “what is the mortal man that you are considering and the son of the earthly man that you are take care of him? - Psalm 8: 3, 4; 19: 1.
It is natural for us to marvel at creations that are too wonderful to be reproduced by humans. A famous line of poetry says, "Only God can make a tree." However, raising a baby is much nicer without creative guidance from parents. When the father's sperm joins the mother's egg, plans are quickly made in the DNA of the newly formed cell to father a child. "If they were written," they say, the instructions in DNA would fill a thousand books of 600 pages. "
This is just the beginning. The original cell is divided into two, then four, then eight, and so on. After about 270 days, a baby is born made up of billions of living cells of more than 200 types. And to think that the original cell contained the information to make all the different cell types and produce them at the right time! Do you travel to praise our Creator? Note the praise of the psalmist who wrote, “Produce my kidneys yourself; You locked me up in the womb. I will praise you because I was made wonderful in ways that cause fear. ”- Psalm 139: 13-16.
Those who have studied these "miracles" are amazed. Dr. James H. Hutton, former President of the Medical Societies of Chicago and Illinois, said he was impressed by the "magical ability of the cell to transmit the data it wants to reproduce in successive cells." . In fact, it's wonderful that our scientific researchers were able to learn more about these things. But a divine intelligence must surely have planned these phenomena. ""
Dr. Hutton continued, "In my own subspecialty of endocrinology, the study of the endocrine functions and disorders of these glands increases the belief that some divine force must be responsible for the wonderful complexity and function of these vital structures." He concluded, "Looking at these miracles seems to me a compelling reason to believe that an omnipotent and omniscient force planned, set in motion and presided over this universe."
After these observations, Dr. Hutton: "Is it a personal god who sees every sparrow fall?" He replied, “Somehow I doubt it. Nor do I think I pay much attention to my relatively unimportant day trips. ""
Why do many realize that intelligence is evident in the "wonders" of creation but question the existence of a personal God who cares for humanity?
