Note: This article is intented for giving informations and has nothing to do with political belief.

We see, Philippines’ corruption index is still high in fact it lands 113th spot on global index last 2019 worsen from the previous rankings (Transparency International, 2019). Crime rates also rises and disinformation widely spread through social media where majority of people are using it. Mocha Uson, OWWA Deputy Administrator yet is noted as the “fake news queen” for spreading false information. Her fake news posts were fact checked by various media outlets. Recently on May, the NBI summoned her for posting erroneous information on crediting the government for the distribution of PPE, which were later then found out that it has been donated by SM Foundation.

Our investigative journalists do not repel their eyes on it, exposing the small-time to big-time transgressors. In history, investigative reporting through the tenacious effort of the investigative journalists in the Philippines, it made a historic events that changed the Philippine regimen.

On 2001, PCIJ’s magazine article “Can the President Explain His Wealth,” through to persistent attitude in investigations of Sheila Coronel leads to the impeachment of former President Joseph Estrada and charged with plundering about $8 million when she first discovered and exposed that Estrada, his family and mistresses had interests in 66 corporations that could not be explained in state assets and income taxes. It was referred to as the “Second People Power Revolution” when anti-Estrada protesters gathered on EDSA, the same site where the historic people power happened that brought down the dictatorship of Marcos. On 2003, Coronel won Asia’s Premier Prize, the Ramon Magsaysay Award. (Coronel, n. d)

Moreover, “Pork Barrel Scandal” must be the biggest scandal in the Philippines’ recent history ―being the roasting topic in different newspapers and online news media. July 2013, when Philippine Daily Inquirer started to run series of special reports pertaining to the allegations about the pork barrel scam of which involves Janet Napoles, the mastermind and several lawmakers, Juan Ponce Enrile, Jinggoy Estrada and Bong Revilla. After so much investigations and trials, Napoles alongside three senators faced graft and plunder charges before the anti-graft court Sandiganbayan. After blowing the whistle on the issue, most of the protesters demand to remove the pork barrel in the wake of the COA report and the alleged P10-billion scam orchestrated by Napoles (GMA News, Dec. 2013).

Over the unexpected threats from the Terrorists, investigative journalism, in addition boon the world to prepare for it. Maria Ressa, on her tenure as the CNN’s lead investigative reporter, she was able write a book Seeds of Terror: An Eyewitness Account of Al-Qaeda’s Newest Center of Operations in Southeast Asia (2003), a book of fascinating but little known “terrorist HQ”. Discovers how Al-Qaeda planned and execute their attacks like the Bali bombing, she also discovers how they operates in Indonesia, Philippines, Malaysia and Singapore that were all linked by the principle “if one Muslim hurt, we all hurt.” Ressa witnessed the shifting of tactics of Al-Qaeda and its generation roots in the Muslim strongholds in the Philippines and Indonesia, retrieved from, Amazon.com, n. d). Above all, Maria Ressa was able to reveal globally the systematic plan of Al-Qaeda and would alarm the armed forces of every state or perhaps the most satisfying is working on peace talks.
