Monster In Me
James Fletcher was a final-year psychology student. He did well in school, stayed out of trouble and never mixed with bad gangs. His focus remained leave college with a first class degree.
After a date with Jane Bush, a pretty woman he met and fell madly in love with. He walked her to her hostel while he held her hands. As they walked, they passed a group of guys who looked like gang members. "Hi, Jane," one of them who looked like their leader said. She did not reply, and walked passed them.
James and Jane stopped by the hostel accommodation, and she pushed him to the front door of a closed shop. "I am so lucky to have met you." She said.
"Who were those guys?" James asked. She explained to him that the ring leader, known as Cobra, was her ex-boyfriend, but she broke things up with him because of the physical abuse he put her through.
"Jane," a harsh voice cried out. She turned and her ex, Cobra, was standing close to her. He walked close to them, grabbed her and struck her face with a fierce slap.
James rushed to her aid but got stopped by one of the gang members who struck him with a brass knuckle, knocking him unconscious with one strike.
After some minutes, James opened his eyes, dazed but heard a weak cry from Jane. He crawled to her and saw her eyes swollen with blood dripping from her lips. She cried that her tummy hurts. He looked down and saw her bleeding. She got stabbed wound and he left to get help.
James returned with his friend, Matt Spark, who helped rush Jane to the hospital where she could get help.
James learnt from his friend, Matt, that pursuing the case with the police was futile. Cobra is not only notorious for crimes on campus but also in town.
He had connections to some of the top politicians in the state and worked with some corrupt top military officials to commit atrocities.
When questioned by the police about the incident, James said it was too dark to tell who attacked them. Jane felt frightened to say anything, and the police had no lead to investigate.
James felt angry and depressed about the attack, he stayed calm for some weeks and plotted an attack in retaliation. He found out the apartment cobra stayed in with his gang and approached the place at night.
He watched the building for some time and noticed when the person who struck him with the brass knuckle left the building to make a phone call.
James covered his face with a mask, crept close to the gang member and struck him with a dagger. The gang member screamed, but James struck him two more times and ran away.
Few hours later, Cobra waited at the hospital and felt relieved when the doctor told him that his friend would survive after surgery. His friend was lucky to live.
Cobra got information from one of his members who believed the attacker was James retaliating. He noticed James wore the same pair of jeans when they attacked him earlier.
A few days later, Cobra and his gang attacked James as he left the lecture hall. They chased him in broad day light, but he escaped. He ran through different building passages and hid in one of the uncompleted buildings.
One of the gang members found him in the building and attacked him. He stabbed James in the shoulder with a dagger.
James stopped his second strike and disarmed him. The attacker still fought him and wrapped his hands around James’ neck, strangling him.
James drove the dagger into the neck of his attacker, killing him with one strike and dashed out of the building.
Few hours late, James hid in the car of Tommy Palmer, the police officer who investigated the earlier attack and told the man all that occurred. Tommy explained to James that he had to turn him in, but James told him that Jane, his girlfriend was not safe.
Tommy decided to take James to his house to get Jane. He intended to get them protection in a safe apartment under the watch of the police.
James told Jane all that happened and advised her to join Tommy to go to the police station while Tommy waited outside the building.
She grabbed a few of her belongings in a hurry. As they stepped out, they saw Cobra standing in front of the house.
They saw Tommy, the officer on his knees and Cobra pointed a gun to his head and shot him.
They ran into the house. But, Cobra and his gangsters were too close. They got into the house and shot both of them. Leaving them lying in their blood.
A few days later, James woke up in a hospital. He had bandages on his body and with tubes running through him. The machines beeped. A doctor walked in and told him he miraculously survived the shooting.
James asked about Jane. The doctor shook his head. She did not make it, and she was lying in a morgue.
James let out a scream, but the doctor called on the nurses to give him a shot of medicine to make him sleep.
Detective Joey Francis, a colleague and friend of Detective Tommy who Cobra shot, met with James few days later. He revealed to James that a CCTV camera captured everything, including the killing of his friend Tommy.
He assured James that the police were on Cobra's tail, he would not hide for long before the law caught up with him. Joey promised James that Cobra was going to pay for what he did.
Few days later, James still under police protection escaped from the hospital without the police on guard noticing. He had only one thing on his mind, serving Cobra a cold dish of revenge.
James went to his friend Matt and told him he had to take revenge. Matt tried talking James out of doing anything stupid, but James did not listen.
Matt owed him some money they made trading on Cryptocurrencies, and he wanted out. He wanted all his share transferred to one of his Crypto wallets.
Matt had no choice, it was James' money and transferred the money.
James went on the dark web and was able to find a credible arms dealer. He contacted the dealer and told him he needed guns. They agreed, and James sent some funds to him. He would get the rest after the transaction.
James went to a strip club where he agreed to meet with the arms dealer known as Idol. He sat at the bar and ordered a drink. Not too long after that he felt a barrel of the gun on his back. "Don't make noise and move to the door in front of you."
James complied, got up and walked to the door. As he got in, he received a strike on his head from the bottom of a gun.
He opened his eyes a few minutes later. He noticed someone tied him to a chair and his wrists bound. Then a huge man with a tattoo with a strange animal tattoo on his shoulder walked in.
"Who sent you?" The man asked. James told him that no one did. The man introduced himself as Idol. The one who was to sell him guns.
James narrated what happened to him, and the man brought out a knife. James’ mind raced as the man walked to him nothing mattered. Jane was dead.
The man cut the rope which held James to the chair and cut his arms free.
"I heard of you." Idol said and explained how Cobra killed his younger brother. He had an itch to pay Cobra for the evil he did.
He brought out a black bag and unzipped it. He showed James a .357 Magnum revolver, a double-barreled 12-guage shotgun and a Colt .45 semi-automatic pistol. The bag contained some ammunition.
James told Idol that his father was a marine before he lost his life in Afghanistan, and he knows his way with guns.
Idol told him not to pay the balance of the money. Consider it a gift to Cobra. Idol informed James where he would find Cobra and informed him he was joining the attack.
James led Idol to his car. He opened it and took out a black leather jacket. He told Idol he was ready, and Idol nodded and they hopped in.
James arrived in front of the warehouse Cobra and his gang used as a hide-out. There was a member who served as a look-out. Idol walked and stood in front of the wired gate.
The gang member approached and asked Idol what he was doing there. James walked closer wearing a face cap, raised his head and recognized the gang member who James stabbed earlier that survived.
"Remember me?" James asked and shot him in the head.
Another gang member ran towards the gate shooting, but Idol took him out with a head shot. He told James, "I guess the party has just started."
Idol unchained the gate and walked in with James. As they got into the warehouse, shots rang out from the gang members. Idol and James used cars in the warehouse to protect themselves from bullets.
James pointed his gun at one of the gangsters and shot the man in the chest, and he fell down. One of them ran, shooting sporadically, but James rolled on the ground and killed him with a head shot.
"I think he likes it." Idol exclaimed. Then a series of gun fire happened, but Idol and James were able to take down three more shooters.
The shooting died down, and they marched towards a demarcated section of the place.
As they got closer, one of the gang members screamed, "You all are going to die." Then he shot sporadically.
James and Idol took cover. Then Idol returned a series of shots while James moved close to where the gang member was and shot him in the chest. He injured the man. He got close and finished the man with a head shot.
He beckoned to Idol to follow him but heard a low cry. "I have been hit." James ran closer and saw Idol bleeding. He got hit on his shoulder.
Idol said. "I will be fine. Kill the bastard for me."
James picked a can and threw it into the demarcated area, and he heard shots. From his intuition, he knew that was Cobra, and he was the last. He stepped in and an exchange of shotgun blasts took place while they both stayed protected behind metal walls.
During the shootout, Cobra got James on his leg, but James also hit him on the shoulder. Cobra shot again, but James had come out of the place he was in without Cobra noticing and shot Cobra twice on the stomach.
Cobra dropped the gun and sat on the floor. Blood gushed out of his shoulder and stomach. "I made a monster out of you".
"No." James said. "You just brought out the monster in me." He raised his gun to shoot him.
"Wait."
James looked and saw Idol walking to him. "I have waited for this day for a long time." Idol pleaded. "Please let me have this dance of joy".
"Let us do this together." James said.
Both of them raised their shotguns, pointed it at Cobra and shot his head.
They walked out of the warehouse. When they got to the car, James advised Idol to leave with it. He would face the police because they knew he was coming there.
He encouraged Idol to go to a place to a secured place to stay low until things calm down. Idol nodded and drove off with the car.
Not long, James heard sirens blaring. He looked up and saw a swarm police cars approaching.
He did it. He killed Cobra for Jane.
