Huawei opened a new research and development hub in France. The Lagrange Center, focused on Research and Development (R&D) in the areas of mathematics and computing, brings together in the Ile-de-France region about 30 scientists from different parts of the world.

The work developed at the Lagrange Center, which is under the responsibility of Professor Merouane Debbah, Director of R&D at Huawei France, will be shared with the academic community and the scientific community. In order to exchange knowledge, seminars will be organized in collaboration with various research partners, such as the Institut des Hautes Études Scientifiques, École Normale Supérieure and other international institutions. In a statement, William Xu, CEO of Huawei France and responsible for the Strategic Research area, indicates that the Lagrange Center “is an open platform for mathematicians from all over the world, whose fundamental objective is to carry out research work that allows us to go beyond the limits, and the results of which will benefit the entire industry ”.

Valérie Pécresse, President of the Regional Council of Ile-de-France, stresses that the region, which has 3,000 researchers, represents the “largest concentration of mathematicians in the world”, also remembering that it has “three universities among the top 10 in the Shanghai ranking, including the first, Paris-Saclay. "We hope to see this center evolve on a real basis, in order to go beyond the fundamental limits of research, supporting revolutionary scientific and technological innovations, which are indeed necessary commitments if we are to make significant progress, especially in the field of Artificial Intelligence", emphasizes Merouane Debbah.

At the international level, Huawei employs more than 200 thousand employees, making up 15.3% of its 2019 revenue. All in all, Huawei's investment in R&D over the past decade now exceeds $ 84 billion. During his conference at IFA 2020, in a video recorded message, Walter Ji, president of Huawei's consumer area, began by reinforcing the 1 + 8 + N strategy. He said that the App Gallery continues to add more than 5,000 applications per month. In this sense, it introduced a new search system, included in Huawei Assistant, in June, which the company says is already used by more than one million users.

Do you feel that your virtual meetings at Zoom are in need of a special touch? In addition to being able to change the “backdrop” to give a more professional look to the video calls or to maintain a little more privacy and not reveal the details of your home, you can now use a series of filters that promise to bring more animation. Filters, which arrived at Zoom in August accompanied by more news, can be an interesting way to “break the ice” in more informal meetings or to make conversations between family and friends more fun. In addition to being able to find various screen frames, with classic smileys or in the shape of an old TV, or colored filters, pirate hats, mustaches, masks and even unicorn horns are also available. Do you feel that your image needs some "touch-up"? You can always go through the Video Settings section to give your skin a smoother effect and hide any "imperfections". There you can also adjust the brightness if you are in a place where the lighting conditions are not ideal. Although it is still in the Beta version, through Studio Effects you can try a different virtual look, either with a new lip color, eyebrow shape or beard and mustache combinations.

Artificial intelligence and connectivity are the company's priorities. Walter Ji reinforces support in Europe, highlighting its 8,500 employees spread across European countries, as well as the 23 research centers and 100 institutes and universities supported by the manufacturer in matters related to computer science. In 2019 it supported 223,000 jobs in Europe and promises to continue to create more jobs, supporting local economies. It opened 43 stores with experiences of its products, highlighting the centers of Paris and Milan, as its strategic commitment to Europe. But above all, Huawei intends to strengthen the relationship with its customers, stressing that its products are safe. He mentions the words of the leader of the company, who says he would rather close doors than hurt trust with his users.
