I just discovered that depriving yourself of regular sleep can actually cause weight gain..
Two hormones induce this.
Leptin. And ghrelin.
"Leptin" is the hormone that tells you body to stop eating.
"Ghrelin" also known as the hunger hormone. Because it increases drive to eat.
Now here's the thing👇
When you are sleep deprived..you have less leptin.
Consequently, your body produces more of ghrelin at this time.
So, more ghrelin + less leptin = weight gain.
Also, not getting enough sleep leads to poorer food choices, increase in calorie intake and sluggishness. The end product is weight gain.
What's the way forward?
Invest in quality and peaceful sleep of about 7-8 hours every night.
Invest in a comfortable bed and good pillows.
You should be relaxed to be able to sleep well. Your phone screen light off 1 hour before bed is advised.
Instead, meditate. Read an easy book. Reflect. And make plans for the next day. This helps you relax and sleep well, knowing everything is in control.
