What Eats first?
What eats the meal first, is it the nose or the mouth? Don’t be in a hurry to answer because you might later find out that your answer was wrong. Just think deep before answering because the question looks very simple but there is more to it than meets the eyes. I remembered while I was growing and even now, I always love to have that sweet aroma filling the entire house every festive period, especially during Christmas. The aroma of fried chicken and sweet tomato stew flying up and down makes it impossible to sleep until I have had a fill from the meal. But then, I never thought about this question not until I heard a female friend of mine saying that each time she finishes cooking, it is as if she loses apatite to eat the food. She said she has always tried to force herself to eat immediately after cooking but all to no avail.
Before she brought up the matter, we were talking about how most of our young girls and even some of our women do not know how to cook a decent meal, even the simplest. I thought she was going to defend the women folk but to my greatest surprise, she affirmed all that I said and when I asked what could be the cause she told me that most girls see cooking as a job rather than a hobby. I was forced to ask her why she thinks cooking should be seen as a hubby because for me, I have always seen it as a serious job especially when the cook is about to make something very unusual. She told me that cooking is an art and that is why anyone who wants to cook must be ready to develop a passion for it. I began to wonder if cooking is an art. Just a quick question; do you think that cooking is an art? Please the question is for everybody especially those who have been able to prepare one meal or the other for others to enjoy. So, if you know that you have not cooked for anyone else, please don’t bother answering because you may not understand what it feels like to cook.
As she continued with the theory that cooking is an art, she made an exegesis between cooking and painting. She said that a painter who does not have a passion for the job will always find it hard to produce a well-detailed painting (artwork). She always went ahead to bring in musicians who are filled with passion for the art of music, she said that you will always know them by the type of lyrics and songs they make each time they get to the studio. As she was saying these things, I began to see reasons for what she was saying because I am a musician with a great passion for the art of music. I understand what she meant by passion is the driving force of every art one ventures into. She continued by telling me that cooking is an art because it takes the mind of an artist to come up with great combinations of different things to make one single but delicious meal.
She also said that if cooking was not an art, why must time be an important part of it? as she said this, I became more convinced because I have been cooking not just for myself but for others and I know that you cannot just park up things and pour them into the pot at the same time, that will amount to cooking what will become very toxic to the stomach. She tried to explain the fact that every good cook knows the time when to add any particular condiment in other to get the best out of it. I began to imagine cooking rice adding every ingredient at once without waiting for the proper time it will certainly be a mess. This was when she made the last point which prompted me to write this today. She said;
“Have you seen any chef who eats too much, it is always a little of this and a little of that yet, you see most of them looking fat as if they eat too much?”
I asked her why is that so, she looked at me and said “a good cook is not bothered about eating what is cooked rather he/she is bothered if others will enjoy the food, this is the major reason why they end up not having a strong apatite to eat the food immediately after cooking because their nose has eating more than they can carry.” As soon as she finished saying these things, I could not but see reasons for what she said but as a strong believer of public opinion, I will like to throw it open to us on this platform. What eats first, is it your nose or your mouth?
Please can leave your answers in the comment section and mind you, be as honest as you can because I would want to confront her with whatever opinion that wins. Whatever your answer will be, back it up with one reason or more. Thank you for always being such a wonderful friend.
Davinchysax loves you.
I remember my niblings when they were younger, they will not eat food offered to them if they don't like the smell lol! I think they are not yet over that kind of habit.
