What Do We Want?
Can you stop whatever you are doing right now to take a look at yourself in the mirror for a minute? It may interest you to know that you need to look at yourself critically to understand where and what you truly want in life. I am not going to dwell so much on what we want in life but I will rather look at what we truly want in our relationships or marriages. This issue is one of the biggest challenges facing every adult, especially those who are yet to understand what they want in a relationship or marriage. So many times we see and hear stories that marvel our minds as regards relationships and how they ended even when the parties involved have all it takes to enjoy a long-lasting relationship.
I was having a chat with some friends today and in between the discussion one of them brought up the issue of Will Smith, immediately something struck me. The very first time that came to my mind was; Will Smith was a well-known actor. He is known virtually everywhere in the world today because of his roles in movies. At this point, I began to look at relationships and what we truly want out of them. If Will Smith was unable to enjoy a great relationship even in all his affluence, what is the assurance that a common man will enjoy his? This question got me thinking deeper and I came up with a few points to help us understand what we should truly look at out for in our relationships.
Why Relationships Fail...
I must ascertain that I am not a relationship counsellor but I believe that we learn from what happens to others in life. I am sure you know about the Divorce Story of Jeff Bezos, The Bill Gates, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, and the most recent one that is still seen as a rumour; singer Rihana and rapper A$AP. I am not in any way praying for Rihana and A$AP to split but I think there is a great need for us to look at the situation of things critically. Just take a look at Rihana's beauty and tell me why any man would ever want to cheat on her.
Just look at her again and tell me why any man would want to cheat on her. I pray that whatever happened between A$AP and Amina is all rumours.
Let's move away from pop stars because you might say that they live a frivolous lifestyle, therefore, one can not evaluate a true relationship with theirs. What happened to the marriages of Jeff Bezos and Bill Gate? These are multi-billionaires in the world to date. So what it means is that they are capable of affording whatever lifestyle they desire. What then happened to their marriages? With all the wealth and affluence they had, their relationships ended even after staying together for over 20 years as couples. This is a clear sign that money does not guarantee a long-lasting relationship, just as beauty does not. What about the Pastor Chris divorce saga? This is the case of a man of God and his relationship. You should not think that religion or one's closeness to his God determines how long and great his relationship will be.
The very simple but always neglected thing that can make every relationship last is knowing what works for you in your relationship. A lot of people go into relationships without asking themselves this very vital question. Have ever asked yourself this question; what do I want in my relationship? The moment you neglect what you want and focus more on what you see or gain in any relationship especially, material things, you are bound to miss the most important thing you should have known before saying yes to your partner. If you carefully look at the people I mentioned above, you will understand that there is a great need fir us to begin to examine ourselves when it comes to relationships and the things we want. Mind you, money, affluence beauty/handsomeness or one's religiosity does not guarantee a long-lasting relationship.
We must as a matter of urgency begin to see relationships and the life we will create from them as regards children as more important. This is because when a marriage where children exist ends in divorce, there is a high probability that those children may find it difficult to have or enjoy a long-lasting marriage without divorce in the future. Some of them may end up not getting married due to fear or the trauma that has registered in their minds while they were still little. We should not neglect what marriage is and why it was instituted. No matter your religion or ethnic orientation, marriage is meant to bring companionship which is grown in love. What do you want in your relationship?
A monkey will always be your friend when you have bananas to throw around. What happens when the bananas finish?
Celebrities and stars really have a hard time when it comes to keeping relationships. Jeff Bezo's wife has her reasons for divorcing Jeff and they are selfish reasons at that. Money is not a determinant to the success of a relationship, although it may sustain a relationship but it cannot be the only Rock on which a relationship lies on, else it will collapse at a stage. As for Jada and Will Smith, money has never been the problem of either of them. They are affluent persons. Their problems are spiritual😂
