Stereotyping: Another form of Blackmail, a must-read

There is a need for me to talk about this in my article on this 1st day of July. It is not because I want to bore you or anything rather it is because I have come to understand that a lot of people are seriously suffering in ignorance, the fact that the choice they make in life goes a long way to determine what they will achieve. The major issue is that we have neglected this fact for so long and those who have come to understand it uses it against us both directly and indirectly. Before I delve into this properly, I would like to point out something, although I am not here to discuss blackmail which I believe you can get on the internet, I would want you to read this article with rapt attention in other not to lose any vital point. I believe by the time you would finish reading this you would understand why you have been trapped both emotional and physical when it comes to breaking into the labour market or making it in your area of endeavour.

Let us look at these keywords with regards to blackmail, but before that, I would say that blackmail in my word is nothing other than to obtain something by using the threat of revealing discreet information about someone.

The Keywords

Blackmail

Emotions

Stereotype.

Looking at the above definition, you will be wondering why and what connection blackmail has with the word stereotype. The truth is that the English word was formed in a way that when you give a closer look at two different words, you will see a connecting line between them but because most times we do not have the energy to look deeper or make researches, we end up missing any hiding clue or point. Let me clarify more. The dictionary has this to say about the word stereotype. It is a conventional or formulaic conception of something. This means that anytime you treat a person or anything conventionally, you are stereotyping.

Blackmail and Stereotype

Now, let us look at the connection between the word blackmail and stereotype. We know and understand that blackmail has a connection with emotions which is why we have emotional blackmail as one of the types of blackmail. When someone is trained to treat something conventionally, he is emotionally spellbound to always do a particular thing the same way even when there is a more suitable way. For instance, when a child is trained not to take gifts from strangers or without the consent of his parents even when the stranger means no harm, he is emotionally bound not to go against his parents and this gets worse when the child is in dire need of help but because of the rule given to him by his parents, he would endure and not seek for help from a stranger. Looking at the child, you will understand that he obeys his parents not necessarily because he wants to but because he might be flogged, scolded or even grounded for not obeying. That keeps him in fear thereby making him do things the way his parents thought him without trying to check if there are other ways by which he can do those things to get a better result.

I believe if you had read the above paragraph well you will understand the connection between blackmail and stereotype. If for any reason you are yet to understand it then, I would want you to read on because the aim is for you to understand. Let me create this scenario. A lady decides to go and learn how to do makeups and makeovers. This journey takes her up to two years to truly understand what is at stake in the makeup industry.

Source

Now, as she completed her learning process, she begins to do the same thing those who were before her did. She will end up trying to meet up with others but all her endeavours will be in vain. What could be the cause? The answer is simple and it is nothing other than the emotional blackmail known as a stereotype. I will explain further. While she was undergoing her training, she was thought that using making someone up outside the studio as a means of advertising her work is not good rather she should make use of a studio and let do an outdoor shoot. After the shoot, she is expected to post the pictures and videos of her work across the internet and due to the stereotyping mindset, she accepts everything hook, line and sinker without making an effort to try out other means of advertising her work.

Now, the implication is that she will end up following the same path as those before her. What this means is that as she makes ten steps to catch up with them, they would have made another ten steps ahead of her but if she had tried to remove the mindset of stereotyping and sought other ways to advertise her work, she may end up surpassing them. Another vital question to ask is; why would she not look for other ways to advertise her work? This is simple, just the same way the child is filled with fear of being scolded, flogged or even grounded for disobeying his parents, she is also afraid because while she was learning, she never saw any of those who were before her try other means of advertising their work because they all were following a laid down pattern and this makes it very hard for her to even consider because she is afraid that she will fail.

Conclusion

Source

This is the reason why a lot of us have remained stagnated in life even when we have the best of ideas. They allow the stereotype mentality to overtake them thereby making them walk around the circle repeating the same things those who before them did. This includes making the same mistakes they made and losing the same opportunities they lost. The heartbreaking truth about what I am saying is that even the wealthy in our world understand this very problem but they will never let you know because if you do, you may end up surpassing them. stereotyping is more dangerous than death because it keeps you believing that you are living meanwhile you are already dead and the worst is that you will keep working hard and getting no good result. What will it cost you to try out a new way of doing things? You can only say that something does not work when you must have tried it not even once. Just like the man that produced the light bulb who kept on trying until he got the required result.

“Don’t forget that life is like a movie script and we are all actors trying out different roles at all times. What you do with the role you are given to play lies solely in your hands”.

Change your stereotype mindset and make a difference today.

I love you.

I'm good at saying things and believing I can't do it or it's not easy for me to do it when I don't want to do it and if I wanted to do things, nothing can stop me even the word "impossible". Just the mindset and the will, how much you want it.

Well, it would be nice if we can try everything out just to be sure that it is not possible. Even when we have tried and failed, that does not mean that it is impossible. Just like the man who invented the light bulb, he tried and failed and yet he continued to try until he achieved success.

I really understood what you were passing across here and thank you for breaking it down to my understanding.

Seriously, many of us are tied down to something we have heard from people and with this, we are afraid to try other ways if it would work. My question is "those teaching us this false information or instructions, don't they want us to progress at all?" Why are we then learning? Is it not to be good and perfect to be the best we can be.

Seriously, we would only keep been in ignorance if we don't take two steps forward at least to try it out ourselves and see what comes out of it.

I am happy I was able to pass the message to you. We leave in a world where we allow stereotyping to keep us bound from going further in our pursuit in life.

Hmm, you know I am getting the gist in this article lol after reading the two instances you gave. And yeah you aren't far from the truth. We keep following the same trend, doing the same thing, and repeating history simply because we don't wanna try out new things and ways perhaps because we have been blackmail. I do hope that we break out of our stereotype shell and try new things and ways of doing things. Nice one from you, and thanks for enlightening us.

Stereotyping is the worst enemy of man and the only way to change it is by taking the bull by the horn at all cost. Nothing is unchangeable.
