Difference between A Wealthy and A Rich man.

Show me a modest man and I will show a wealthy man. There has always been this misunderstanding between being wealthy and rich. I must confess that at some point while I was growing up I use to think that being rich means the same thing as being wealthy until I attended a seminar on wealth creation.

The facilitator distinguished the difference between being rich and wealthy by using an analogy that has glued in my head since then. In his analogy, he stated that a rich man is someone who has the money to buy a car, fuel and maintain it while a wealthy man is someone who has the money to buy more than five car's at the same time but chose to buy one. He also said that there is a great demarcation between the reasoning of the rich and the wealthy and that is seen in their way of spending.

Now, looking at the above analogy you will understand that at some point in life you will understand that wealth is what makes a man and not riches because a wealthy man is seen as a fulfilled person while a rich is seriously on the path to attain wealth. Mind you, we have different types of wealth and the one I am talking about today is the wealth that deals with paper money or fiat. Have you ever noticed that most times those who make noise are virtually empty cans? This is also seen in the area of money spending.

A wealthy man has this mindset that he will use his wealth to create more wealth while a rich is only after the pleasures he can get with his riches. What am I saying in essence, a rich will spend almost all his money on frivolities because he thinks that life is only about enjoyment while the wealthy man will always lookout for opportunities to invest in a bid to increase wealth.

In all of these, one thing that stands out is the ability for the wealthy to always show modesty in all that they spend on unlike the rich. I want you to ask yourself this pertinent question; why do wealthy people spend modestly? By the time you get the answer to the question, you would have understood that making money goes beyond spending it just like most of us believe. To be wealthy in life, you must abide by the rule of modesty. The reason I called it a rule is because once you do it you will notice that riches will become a stepping stone towards acquiring greater wealth.

There must be a conscious effort to always show modesty in all we do in life because being modest is not just bordered on money and spending. Modesty comes into our daily life and the things we do must show it. In our relationships, we must be ready to learn how to be modest with whatever we do. I remembered growing up in the family and how my father will always warn us against wasting food or should I say eating that which we need and not the one we want. At a time, I became a rebellious child because I loved to eat burger almost all the time so I made him buy them for me but after a short while, he stooped and forced me to eat what every other person eats in the house. That was because my hunger for a burger was never going to be quenched. After all, it just wanted and not need.

For you to be able to live a modest life, you must try as much as possible to differentiate between wants and needs. Do not go spending on your wants because you can never satisfy your wants no matter how many times you delve into them. The only thing you will notice is that you will be spending hugely on it and yet with no satisfaction. Another thing is that your need will always give you that satisfaction you need once you meet them. Most times when we go to an occasion, we see people who will eat more than others and still carry some food home because they have not understood the fact that the occasion was not meant for them to come and pack all the food they will eat in the next coming month.

Be mindful of the way you spend money because once you spend carelessly you are indirectly going to limit yourself to being a rich man which of course will never give you that satisfaction in life. Know when to spend and when not to because once the money is gone, you may not get it back. A wealthy man saves for tomorrow while waiting for an investment opportunity but the rich man will spend today just to satisfy him forgetting that tomorrow is unknown. It is good to plan for the future instead of allowing the future to plan for you.

I realized that having a rich mindset is like they are visualizing that they are one day millionaire while being wealthy thinking if how could be more rich since they are thinking their future.

If someone would hear the words you have mentioned, they will might say they are one and the same. Though they have something in common, still they have difference and that is what you have included here. Thanks!

Modesty is an expression or facet of humility. Obtaining many material goods is not always synonymous with wealth. The rich are not the one who has the most, but the one who needs the least. A popular sentence that I once read. I think it is very valid. Maybe it was said by Diogenes of Sinope, I don't know, or it was just repeated from someone forgotten in the sands of time. The important thing is that it is still in force.
