Darkness, the enemy of Progress.

For quite some time now, I have been asking myself this question and it dawned on me that the answer has been there starring at me in the face. In the creation story, why didn't God create man or other things first instead of the light? As I sat down today in the darkness of the hour, I began to see why God created light first before any other thing. It may be the very reason why most African countries like Nigeria is still being seen in the world today as developing country. The truth is that wherever darkness exists, progress will always be very far from such a place. If God thought that nothing was as important as light and created it first, why then have we become ignorant to the progress that light brings which is why most developing countries have not made a serious decision to tackle the issue of electricity with all they have.

Just as we can see in other countries where electricity has become more epileptic than an epileptic patient, it has become a story that may not have an end in Nigeria. Recently, there has been a serious issue about the hike in the price of petroleum in Nigeria which has become the greatest challenge eating everyone alive in the country. It has become worse for those who are living in areas where electricity is not anything to talk about. How can any business survive in a country where there is no steady electricity and the price of petroleum which could be used to power the generating sets has done over 70 per cent increase in price? This has caused a serious issue of scarcity which is gradually melting the pockets of the poor masses.

Any country that has been on a steady upward flow with its economy has gotten a serious grip on electricity and any challenges that might come from it. If God created the light first before any other thing, does that not show us the importance of light or electricity in the development of man? How can family progress when there is so much darkness surrounding them? It has been proven that a man who has been isolated in a dark room can easily become disoriented mentally. This is one of the reasons why I strongly feel that the political elites in Nigeria are seriously not after the progress of the country rather they are there for self-aggrandisement.

What will it take a country like Nigeria to develop a working system that can end the epileptic power supply that has bedevilled the country for such a long time? If we say that we do not know that the lack of a steady power supply is the reason why the developmental structures in the country are not functional, then we are lying to ourselves. I am not here to talk about Nigeria alone because I am aware that a lot of other countries are suffering the same fate. How can country progress in darkness? It is very impossible because when the poor masses manage to set up themselves with little business here and there, their efforts will be in vain if the government fails to provide them with the needed amount of electricity.

What is the repercussion?

The lack of steady electricity sends the businessman out of business and turns him into a social miscreant and tomorrow, the government will spend more money building prisons and expanding the old ones to accommodate more prisoners. These are people who could have been gainfully self-employed could have added positively to the country's GDP. We cannot over-emphasize the need for every country to develop a working system that can generate a steady energy supply to the nooks and crannies of the countries. Right now, I am among those who are finding it hard to work, because there has been a power outage and petroleum which could have become the poor masses' escape route has increased so much that getting it is now left for the rich only.

Indeed, darkness is the greatest enemy of progress and we must try anything humanly possible to chase it away just as God commanded the light to come which dispersed darkness. Any family, community or country that wishes to enjoy great progress must make sure that electricity and any challenges associated with it is taken care of.

Thank you for reading my post today and I am sorry it's coming late. I just managed to power my phone this night. For those who are about to sleep right now, good night and sweet dreams.

Gas and oil prices have hiked here in the Philippines also. I hope Ukraine and Russia can have peacetalks already, so that everything would go back to normal already.
