Buried in the Pond.

It was a mournful day in the Mayor's house as they watched with bewilderment as the ambulance left with the corpse of their mother Ellen. The entire town was left to mourn and weep with millions of questions with no single answer. It is truly a day the entire community will never forget in a hurry. The first question that was seen on the lips of everyone was; who killed Ellen the Mayor's wife? Even the sheriff could not waste any second before she threw the question to the Mayor, a question the mayor found rather offensive. It was truly a day Bostoner’s will never forget. It is not because of the death of Ellen but because of the circumstances surrounding her death which looked rather suspicious. How can the body of Ellen be found inside the Fish pond? Whispers of what could have happened were heard from all nooks and crannies of the community. The Mayor was broken because she could not comprehend who or what had happened to the woman he has lived with for over 15 years. Cane, the only child of the mayor was shattered because he had a much closer relationship with his mother. Cane had millions of questions to ask but who was going to give him the answers he needed?

Ellen was a woman every man will love to have as a wife, even as she was in her mid-forties, she radiated such beauty that most times made the Mayor feel a bit jealous. It is rumoured that it was her charm that won the post of Mayor to the husband. This rumour that was never taken with any form of joy by the mayor was never substantiated, although the mayor nursed the feeling in his heart. This was one of the reasons why the Mayor tried all he could to remove the wife from the politics of the community as a way of taking charge and not living under the charm of his wife Ellen. How could the wife of the Mayor be found dead in her house, inside her fish pond? This question was what the sheriff wanted to solve.

It was at this time that the sheriff had to close up the entire area surrounding the fish pond where Ellen’s body was found. This was done in other not to lose any form of clue that might lead to finding the killer. For a proper investigation to start, the sheriff requested that the entire household of the Mayor be held on house arrest for the period of the investigation. This request came as a surprise to the entire community because it meant that the Mayor will have to allow his assistant to take over till the end of the investigation.

Who killed Ellen?

This was the first question Inspector Mark who was called from the district to handle the case asked the Sheriff. As they were discussing and trying to understand what could have led to the killing of Ellen and who the killer is, the inspector made a shocking discovery. This was when it became more heartbreaking even for the Mayor himself. Ellen never had any known or unknown enemy throughout the length and breadth of the community. She was the most loved and cherished in the family of the Mayor. Her charitable and humble lifestyle earned the title Ellen Meek. She was never seen with a sad or heavy face even in the face of hardship or struggles.

While she was alive, Ellen had a group of young stars who she was training through the business of fish farming, a project she started after seeing the need for the community to subsidize the importation of fish from distant communities. The Boston’s were known for their achievements in the cultivation of vegetables, fruits and other farm products which can be gotten in areas with less water supply. One thing was missing which Ellen saw and decided to startup the fish farm.

How can Ellen be killed in such a merciless and heartless manner, a woman who was loved by all; so the community thought? As the investigation deepens, inspector Mark could not but marvel and wonder why the killer decided to not just kill Ellen but to feed her to her fishes. When the inspector visited the coroner’s place to take a proper look at the body of Ellen, he found out that there were hidden marks under her armpit. He confirmed from the coroner that those hidden marks were not from fish bites but, from razor marks which made was how Ellen was made to bleed to death.

This shocking revelation meant that the killer was and is still living in the Mayor's house. When this information was given to the Mayor, he broke down in tears and cried so bitterly that the inspector had to take his leave. One thing was not clear, and that thing was; where was Ellen killed before being dumped in the fish pond? This question and its answer were very vital in the investigation of her death. The inspector decided to search the entire nooks and crannies of the Mayors villa, starting from servant quarters.

After going through the servant’s quarters thoroughly, he moved over to the main villa where the Mayor and his only child stay. As the inspector searched through the room of Ellen’s only son Cain, he could see how unease he was especially when he wanted to search his closet. The inspector made a shocking discovery which the Mayor himself could not believe. The inspector found out that Cain was seriously doing drugs under the roof of his father the Mayor. This was why he was unease when the inspector was searching his closet. There was an awful feeling in the community when the news got to the hearing of the people that the Mayor's son was a drug addict. As the community was trying to understand why and how the Mayor was unable to train his only son, another shocking revelation was made. Why did you do it?

It was a day the entire community including the inspector and sheriff will never forget. As the inspector searched through Ellen’s bedroom, he found out that Ellen was killed in her room on top of her bed, probably as she was resting. At this point the only suspect was Cain who was now being seen as an addict, therefore, might have killed her mother under the influence of drugs, but who killed Ellen? As the inspector questioned Cain the son of the Mayor, he found out that he has not been living with his parents for over 2 weeks before the death of Ellen. This was confirmed by the maidservants and the Mayor himself.

The inspector asked the Mayor a question which if the answer is given will reveal who the killer was. The question was; do the servants have access to Ellen’s room? The Mayor quickly said NO, because Ellen never allowed the servants to clean or dress her bed for her even as the Mayor's wife. She gathers her clothes and takes them down to the laundry room where the servants help her to wash them. This response was all it took for the inspector to ask the Mayor a direct question. Why did you kill Ellen your wife? At this question, the Mayor broke down in tears because he knew that his game was up.

“I could not watch her take over as the next Mayor because the town was already planning to vote her in and remove me…”

This was Ellen’s only crime, a crime she would never have committed even if she was forced. The Mayor allowed Selfishness and Greed to get a better hold of him.

This is exactly what happens in our political corridors today. We kill even those who are more qualified than us and are eager to bring positive change in the community just because of selfish desires and greed. The Mayor lost his wife, son and even the entire community. I don’t think that that office or position is worth anybody’s blood. Think twice before taking that action.
