Whenever a child is born and it happens that it is a boy, it is instantly assumed that his life is going to be filled with challenges that will weigh him down at some point in his life unless if he has the shoulders of the gods. As he begins to take responsibility, he will be reminded of the sacrifices his father made for him to survive as a child. This reminder becomes his daily cross that heavily hangs on his neck just in case he chooses to do otherwise. The life of a man is not that kind of life that can be lived in total carelessness or without recourse to the feeling of others at least, the immediate family.

Why we are at the crossroad trying to understand how we got ourselves into t  mess called “the life of a man”, time ticks as though life itself seems not to give a hoot. Whenever I hear the statement; no man is an island, it makes me wonder and ponder on what could have been the motive or the reason for the coinage of the statement because, even when a man is crowded by friends, families and relatives, he is still left to carry his burden alone even as he goes through the road that leads to eternal rest.

Adam's Feelings

I could imagine how Adam felt when he was faced with the greatest question and answer session of all time. Let us take a look.

Creator: Adam! Where are you?

This was a very simple question that required a straight answer about location and nothing else, but what did the very young man called Adam reply? Let’s take a look.

Adam: I heard your voice in the garden and I was afraid because I was naked.

Looking at the response of Adam, what would you make out of it? It was not about him being naked that made God call him because he has been naked in the sight of God even as he walks the surface of the earth with various types of clothes and designers wears. Was Adam’s response appropriate to the question God asked? This will be a discussion for another day and while you are at it, let us look at how the cross of Adam became the joy of Eve.

The question you will have to ask yourself in this article is; who is the writer referring to as Adam? From the meaning of the word, Adam can be said to be a man, right? But is that what the writer means? Each time you go out of your way to hustle just to get the good things of life not just for your selfish gain but for the betterment of others especially your immediate family, you can only be described as Adam. The real truth is that the world understands this but still does not want to make it known to everyone because of one singular reason.

·        That is the reason why we have a world where a man is expected to do all the heavy lifting whenever the need arises.

·        It is the same reason that makes it hard for a man to succumb to weakness and pain even when it is killing him.

·        It is the same reason that places the man in the frontline at every single drum of war in his community.

·        This very reason makes pity a very distant relation of man and everything he holds in esteem.

Have you bothered to know what our world will be like if the woman is thought how not to wait for a man to do the heavy lifting thing? if she is meant to understand that defending her family is a job she must do at all cost. if she is meant to know that pity and weakness is not and should not be a part of her? I bet you must have seen a lot of women who have broken free from this self-limiting ideology of the difference between a man and a woman. For me, a woman is a man and a man is a woman. The only difference is that they are meant to complement each other wherever one falls short but the reverse is the case. We have made our girls grow with the ideology that the man should provide for her needs and wants at all costs even when she is being humiliated in the process. The girl child is not and was not created to receive because you can bear witness that the creator blessed her also with wisdom and understanding with which she can use to do exploit.

Let me take you back to the story of Adam and Eve. Why did you think the devil came to talk to Eve and not Adam? If you understand what I am about to say, you will be able to understand why most marketing firms use women as their top marketers irrespective of age and qualification. Most times you will be shocked to know that your lady boss does not have more qualifications than you and yet she is made your boss in that marketing firm. Let us look at the story again. Satan who I call the master of all marketers and the number one marketer to be recorded looked at both Adam and Eve in other to weigh their level of understanding. After he spent days and nights watching and studying them, he found out that talking to Adam direct will be outrightly futile but one thing struck him. In one of the days, he must have seen how Eve made Adam go out in search of food just by merely smiling and touching Adam on the head. He (Satan) saw this and knew at that moment that the only way to get the man is through the woman.

Now, that is not even where the focus should be. Remember that Adam has been warned not to eat from the fruit of that particular tree. Can you imagine if God had warned Eve about the fruit, do you think the devil would have succeeded?  This is not in any way to say that God should be blamed but let us bring that story to reality and happenings around us. If you are a man reading this post, how many times have you done something you have vowed not to do just because your woman persuaded you to do so? 

And if you are a woman reading this post, how many times have you gone back to your word just because your man persuaded you to do so? If we are honest enough we will understand that the percentage for a man to go back on his word is higher when a woman is involved than the percentage of a woman going back to her word even when a man is involved. What does this tell us? Let us find the answer in the story. Hope you are still very much with me?

Now, as Satan already understood that the weakness of man is tightly hinged on the actions and words of the woman, he made that very fast move by making Eve his first-ever marketing assistant just by telling her all the things she will gain from eating the fruit. If you look at the story, you will see that Eve did not push so hard to convince Adam to eat the fruit even as he knew where that fruit came from.

Eve was happy that she got the knowledge Satan promised but the joy of Eve became the Cross of Adam. If this is the case, how then do we limit the girl child from taking that bold step of becoming better even more than a boy? Why can’t we tell the girl child the need for her to learn and live an independent life just in case the boys decide to go astray? Let these questions and more run through our minds as we face our daily activities.
