Damages of eating sugar

When doctors warn about too much sugar in our food, what sugar are we talking about? What are its damages and how can we avoid them?

We can say that sugar (like cholesterol) has two classes: the good for health and the bad for health.

  • As for the first (good), we find it in natural foods, such as fruits (fructose fructose) and milk (lactose).

These natural foods share the presence of sugar, proteins, essential fats, vitamins, minerals and fiber, all of which are essential for a healthy diet, and we only get benefit from them if we eat them in moderation.

  • As for the second (harmful), it is what is called refined sugar (sucrose), which is added to sweets, soda drinks, processed fruit drinks, ice cream (ice cream), flavorings (including catch-up), and prepared foods (including bread and canned meat), and often What is made from sugar cane, which (ie refined sugar) is devoid of any useful nutrients (hence the energy it gives is called "empty calories"), and only the harm comes from it.

What are the disadvantages of refined sugar?

1- It dampens energy

It quickly raises the concentration of the hormone insulin in the blood, which exposes its owner to hunger and tension, limits his activity, prepares him for lethargy and the desire to sleep, reduces his impulse to sports, and determines his appetite for sex.

2- Weakens immunity

What makes a person more vulnerable to cold and disease, and weakens the ability of beneficial bacteria in the intestine (unlike the good sugar provided by fruits and vegetables, and fermented foods such as milk and honey).

3- Exacerbate the phenomenon of inflammation

That underlies many common diseases and complaints, such as headaches, acne, muscle and joint pain, and rashes, in addition to chronic diseases that are responsible for most deaths, the most important of which are cardiovascular diseases, diabetes and cancer diseases.

4- It damages the teeth

Because it provides easy food for germs (bacteria) that linger in the mouth, which causes them to multiply and cause tooth decay and gingivitis.

5- Liver fatigue

"Sucrose", which consists of refined sugar, is transformed in the body into "glucose", which the body consumes and manufactures easily, and "fructose", which can only be digested in the liver, which stores it in the form of "glycogen". If we eat a lot of it, it will not be excreted. With sufficient muscle effort, this led over time to cirrhosis. Fructose is consumed today widely in the form of high-fructose corn syrup (HFCS).

6- It increases insulin resistance

The frequent high concentration of insulin in the blood in order to digest sugar, over time, leads to a rise in insulin resistance in the body, and this leads to one or more dangerous diseases, the most important of which are diabetes, obesity, heart disease, and metabolic syndrome.

7- It raises cholesterol, fats and uric acid in the blood

Today, dietitians focus on sugar, rather than fat, as the first and most important cause of high cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood, and as is known, high cholesterol is one of the main causes of coronary heart disease (heart attacks) and strokes.

Recent studies also show that addiction to sugar increases uric acid, which is one of the risk factors involved in causing heart disease.

8- It increases the risk of cancer

And that by constantly raising the levels of insulin that controls the process of cell proliferation, and enhancing the phenomenon of inflammation in the body, and the relationship of frequent refined sugar intake with the emergence of cancer has been proven in more than one study.

9 - leads to obesity

Fructose, which is liberated from the digestion of sucrose, does not inhibit the satiety hormone ghrelin, as glucose does, on the one hand, and high insulin resistance predisposes itself to obesity, on the other hand, and the effects of this global health problem that result in various diseases, especially in children, appear.

10- It affects consumers with addiction

Refined sugar stimulates the brain to release the hormone dopamine, and this predisposes to addiction to various foods that include added sugars.

I wish you good health away from the damages of sugar.
