The Sega Master System has the somewhat dubious distinction of being the only game console to feature a game based on the TV series ALF. While ALF was a decent sitcom, the game suffers from many of the problems common to licensed games. Graphics, sound and game play are all mediocre at best and there was not a sufficient budget to make a decent game. https://odysee.com/@Megalextoria:b/Alf_Sega_Master_System:b #Retrogaming

This post includes the contents of OMNITERM.RCV dated October 27th, 1985. It appears to be a log capture from the terminal of a user navigating logging on to Delphi, reading mail and performing other activities. Some of the contents has shown up in other files but what makes this interesting is the sort of start to end interaction with the system. A snippet of what “going online” was like in 1985. The first photo shows some flowers growing by a house. The next shows a beach. These aren't labeled or dated so it is hard to say where they were taken. It could be a Florida beach. The last two photos look like they were taken on a bay somehwere. Possibly Florida as well. If so, the water level looks high. Maybe an approaching (or recent) hurricane? While not dated, based on the slides themselves and dates of those they are with, these were probably taken in the late 1950s…

The Anime Costume Contest at MegaCon 2009 sponsored by Anime Sushi. This used to be the only costume contest at MegaCon and the tended to be a bit flexible with the "anime" aspect even though that was the emphasis. Now that have the more professional "Masters of Cosplay" competition but this one was always more fun. Video: https://odysee.com/@Megalextoria:b/anime_costume_contest_2009:5 #Anime

I thought this was a snake when I first saw it in my backyard but it's actually a glass lizard. It's a type of legless lizard so it looks a lot like a snake. The 'glass' part of the name comes from the fact that the tail, which makes up a large portion of its body, can break off when grabbed by a predator.

Popeye was released originally as an arcade game by Nintendo in 1982 and was quite popular. It would soon be ported to a large number of home platforms including the Atari 2600, Atari 5200, Atari 8-bit computers, ColecoVision, Commodore 64, Intellivision, Odyssey^2, NES and TI-99/4A. I am only really familiar with the Commodore 64 version though I think I may have played the arcade version once or twice. The Commodore 64 port is pretty good and is probably among the better…

This 1983 ad features a fan that mounted on the side of an Apple II for cooling. It claims to be quiet and aid in cooling but there are no specifics. In most cases, these computers didn't need active cooling but I suppose even a little could go a long way in extending the life of your computer. It would be interesting to see real numbers on this for 8-bit computers but I doubt there are any. However, the Apple II has internal expansion slots and if you have multiple slots…

Pi is a new cryptocurrency developed by Stanford PHDs. Like dozens of other cryptos that seem to be popping up all the time, I have no idea of this will be "the next big thing". However, it does have the advantage of being easy to mine and it is mined in an equitable way with early adopters having the advantage. All you have to do to mine is click a button in an app on your phone once a day. The app doesn't actually mine in the conventional sense as the button press IS the…

Digital Archaeology, Expedition #1 Out in the distant reaches of the curb of my next door neighbor I discovered a small, towering beige monolith. To my expert eyes it was clear that it was a computational device of ancient origin. I immediately determined to ascertain whether or not it could be resurrected so I brought it and the accompanying cathode ray tube monitor and other accessories back to my laboratory. Surprisingly enough, the pc and monitor powered on with no…

Fantasy has always been my favorite genre when it comes to books. Having spoiled myself from an early age with the best fantasy series in existence (Lord of the Rings) and reading most of the great fantasy series since, it has become increasingly hard to find good fantasy to read. Recently, I pulled The Magic of Recluse off of the shelf (it's been there for years having been purchased at a library book sale for 50 cents long ago) and decided to give it a try. The Magic of…

I have a Compaq Deskpro that has been in my collection for a number of years. It has Windows 98 installed on it and I have on occasion used it booted into DOS mode to emulate a disk drive for my Commodore 64 via 64HDD. Just determining the exact model proved to be somewhat of a challenge. I powered it up for the first time in a number of years and the BIOS message on the bottom of the screen identifies it as a Deskpro EN model. It has a 333 MHz Pentium II, 256 MB RAM and…

A.N.A.L.O.G. Computing (September 1981) While the Commodore 64 was probably the best 8-bit computer from a technical point of view, the Atari 8-bit line of computers wasn't far behind and had several years head start. A.N.A.L.O.G. Computing was one of the most popular magazines covering that line of computers in the U.S. In 1981, when this issue was published, the Commodore 64 was still two years away. The September 1981 issue includes: Features/Articles Basic Disk Utilities…

If you are planning a trip to the Magic Kingdom, December is a great time to go. Not only do you get to see the fantastic Christmas decorations but the temperatures are cooler. Crowds can still be bad though so go on a weekday and before kids are out for Winter break if that is an option. The above picture was taken on December 17th, 2016. I live in Florida so I am fortunate enough (or misfortunate enough depending on your point of view I guess) to be able to get season…
