Busy Saturday
Date: 2nd of April, 2022.
My plan for the weekend was to rest and sleep for as long as possible. I felt like my dry needed to recuperate from the stress of the weekdays; Monday to Friday. Well, that plan feel through entirely.
A close friend of mine is getting married at the end of the month and she had asked me and some of her other friends to be her bridesmaid. Normally, I do not like the general acts that comes with this role but it is one I must accept because she is my friend and for get, I am happy to do it. However, this role comes with some expectations. First is the financial one. As a bridesmaid, we have to pay for some things, buy the recommended accessories and perform some duties even before the wedding. For these things to be organised smoothly, a whatsapp group was created for the bridesmaids to discuss and reach conclusions about certain matters. The problem here is that when it involves money, some people are either less or more financially stable than the others and the two sides try to find situations that suit only them rather than finding a common ground and seeking where to make compromises or stand their ground.
Another friend of mine, who is also on the bridal train (the only other bridesmaid I know there) planned for us to go to the market next weekend to get our accessories for the wedding. I agreed to this plan until yesterday when we remembered that the prices of products usually got hiked as we neared the Easter celebrations. This then made us decide to go to the market today.
My friend said it would take her 30 minutes to get there while I knew mine would last for as long as 1hr 30mins. So, the plan was that I would leave first while she got ready, I would then call her when I was 30 minutes away. I followed this plan to the T and I called her when I was 30 minutes away. I got there first and called to know where she was only to find out she was still far away. I had to wait for an hour under the scorching sun. When she finally got there, I couldn't find her because she couldn't locate meeting point. She got lost and turned around a lot.
When we finally saw each other, we're took our time to find the things we needed. We had to go from shops to shops to check for a better product or compare prices. The market we went to is the biggest market in the state. We had to go to different areas of the market and we boarded commercial vehicles to get to the farther parts of the market.
It wasn't easy finding something we liked, haggling the price and carrying what we had bought. I was also very hungry because I left home in the morning before breakfast was ready. I bought myself a bottle of lipton iced tea and a small packet of biscuit. For most of the ordeal, I was tired and hungry.
Something I struggled with was how high the prices of things kept going up. I had to spend way more than I had planned without buying all I needed.
From the market, our friend, the bride to be, invited us to her house to get some thing we would also use for the wedding. So, instead of going home after spending so many hours in the market, we had to go to the bride's house. The place was quite far and took us a while to get there. When we got there, she wasn't home yet so we were entertained by her elder sister (who we also consider our friend in a way). We hadn't seen her in a few years so we decided to stay back and catch up. It was really fun to hang out with her. My friend was so tired that she laid on the floor and after an hour, she slept off haha. I had to wake her up so that we could go home and rest.
We then bade goodbye to our friend's (the bride) parents and her sister. My friend and I had to take separate routes to get home so we boarded different vehicles and we both got home safely at about 7pm. I immediately ate and rested before doing the work my parents assigned to me. Tomorrow, I might also be attending an event with my sister, that means no rest again but it's cool.
How did your day go?
I remember the last time I bought aso-ebi for a wedding of a very good friend, since that day I said I will be avoiding things like that. It's not even getting the materials for the wedding that was stressful, but they used me to work anyhow on the wedding day 😩 I picked money, I served foods and drinks, at the end of the day I didn't still eat because food got finished 😂
