When it comes to depression, many people don't actually view it as an illness. Some may liken it to a state of mind, never long lasting but rather momentary. But is that really the case?

Research has shown that depression is a very common illness worldwide, with well over 264 million people affected. It is way different from mood swings and everyday emotional reactions to the challenges life throws at us.It can have a long lasting and devastating effect on the affected person, thereby causing them to perform poorly acedemically, socially and also affects the individuals work habits. On a worst case scenario it often leads to suicide.Millions of people die as a result of this every year.

Although this problem can be effectively handled just like other mental illnesses, most people plagued by depression fail to speak up.Some individuals mistake it for the regular emotional fluctuations of everyday life leading to an inaccurate assessment of the situation.

If you or anyone is battling depression ,its wise to seek the aid of a therapist. It has been proven that this problem can hardly be solved by you alone.Seek help before its too late

That's why I stated that people often confuse their situation for regular emotional fluctuations, leading to a poor assessment of their condition

We need to be sensitive on what we say and our actions towards other people as these might affect them. Depression is triggered if the people around lacks the sense of sympathy and empathy. We need to be kind to one another.

Being insensitive might result to negative effects like depression. Bullying in school and the workplace could also be a huge factor.
