Fashion: My First Construction of Pattern
In life, there are many reasons one would want to make or add designs to clothing, it might be for the love of fashion or to follow new trends. But in all, you will need to have some garments in mind as well as have the design pattern that will suit your desire. You can choose to make alterations to clothing your already own, or to a new cloth you want to make. It is also important to know how to sew a garment from the scratch, at least you need a small idea of that to create your custom design.
In the early hours of today, I noticed that my newly sowed cloth lacks beautiful custom designs to portray my kind of lifestyle. I know making clothes or custom designs requires a bunch of tools for sewing and measuring the custom patterns in other to ascertain that they fit comfortably. I do have a little knowledge back then when my sister use to sow clothes for her clients and I will sit by her side to watch what she was doing.
In the beginning, I was not comfortable with the idea of adding custom designs to my clothes in other not to end up making a fuss of it, but the more I make up my mind and sketch the picture in my head, the easier it becomes.
First I had to employ a sharp pair of scissors to help designate for cutting of the cloth for the design. Because of my fear of not spoiling my cloth I had to use tracing paper for drafting my patterns and modifying the patterns as I sow. I used rulers for drafting the measurement of the patterns and pins for holding the fabric to the best position before the sowing begins.
Thank God for the household sewing machine owned by my sister which tends to be more portable for stitching despite its slow mode of sowing and not portable with heavy fabrics, I had to be careful while handling it. I had to revisit the manual to get directions for the bobbin and spin as well as where the bobbin case is and how to fix it. I knew most of this before but for the benefit of the doubt, I wasn’t fully sure of what I was doing.
I had to check if the spool holder is holding the spool of the thread while it controls the direction of the thread, also checking the bobbin, I had to wind the bobbin with thread and fit it into the bobbin case determining the length of each of the stitch. I visited the take-up lever which controls the thread tension making sure it is properly set to avoid jamming. To do away with my doubt, I visited a nearby sewing shop to ask a few questions and clarifications and I found someone willing to help with the descriptions.
Despite the simplicity of the design I had to start gently to avoid had I knew. Otherwise, I might feel frustrated and even quit if one error had occurred.
My next move was to lay my cloth on the flat table and place the pattern pieces on it. I had to think of how I wanted to lay my pattern pieces out with careful planning, folding the pattern pieces right sides facing together to keep them from unraveling. This idea helped me to cut the pattern pieces moderately.
I ironed the pattern piece and pinned it to the fabric to ascertain that the pattern pieces and the fabric are aligned properly before sowing. I placed the pieces on the cloth and sowed gently, maintaining the lines and making sure there was no error.
After the sowing, I had to add the finishing touch which was to iron it and I was so proud of my work, despite its unprofessional look, it made my day.
Oh, that's good. I like creative peoples. You are doing well and I guess, I would like to see more in near future.
