Tonight a large storage hall of a recycling yard burnt down near here. The fire is now under control but it is still burning in some places. We are told to keep the windows closed and I think it is better that way. This morning I was "airing out" and smelled the smoke. Breathing is also more difficult than usual. Hopefully the announced rain will come soon and help with the firefighting work.

When Dark Mode? Dark mode now! Metamask finally has a dark mode that can be activated in the settings under "Experimental". How long I have been waiting for this...
This week Epic Games has 2 #free #PC #games for you. - A Game Of Thrones: The Board Game Digital Edition Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iiFer-BSePw - Car Mechanic Simulator 2018 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LCTF8wKWFSU Unfortunately I don't have much time to look into this in detail today, but I think you know what it's about. As always, have fun with it!

In the meantime, I have been able to solve the puzzle, or rather, a colleague has been able to solve it. What we see here is the construction of a potter wasp. To be more precise, it is either the Oriental Mason Wasp (Sceliphron curvatum) or the Yellow and Black Mason Wasp (Sceliphron caementarium). You never stop learning: The oriental wall wasp is a spider-eater. To feed her larvae, the female hunts spiders, paralyses them with her venom and brings them to a potty she has…
Who can tell me what this is? It was made overnight in a towel that was hanging outside to dry. It's tiny and made of some kind of clay, so I suspect it's not a wasp nest. Have you seen this before?

In the meantime, my little forest has become a real jungle. The flowers from the seed bombs are developing beautifully. Maybe there are too many for the small pot, but I won't interfere. They'll sort it out among themselves.

My colleague brought a HUGE bucket of cherries to work today, his own harvest. And when I say huge, I mean it. At least 500 square ounces, if not more. That's about 10kg. Now the big question: What would you do with this amount of cherries before they spoil? Do you have any good, local ideas? Eating is one solution but we won't be able to do that.

I don't want to start talking about climate change again, but what's going on here right now must be connected to it somehow. Yesterday we had 39°C and bright sunshine, today it's 19°C and raining. I'm beginning to not know what to wear in the morning anymore. Strange summer.
Natural mosquito trap. The mosquito lands on the salt and thinks it is sugar. It therefore gets thirsty and looks for water. But there is rum in the lid. The mosquito gets drunk, trips over the stick and hits its head on the stone and is dead. 😁 A friend sent it to me and I had to laugh. Too bad not to share it. Idea and photo are not mine.
In our city, sensible alternatives for private transport are slowly but surely being created. For some time now, there have been MobiBikes, which can be used free of charge for half an hour with a monthly ticket for public transport. They can then simply be parked at major streets or bike stations after using. Right behind them is a car-sharing parking space for electric cars. Some will ask, why only now? Others will think, what's the point? In any case, I'm glad that there…
The Rhino Beetles are coming! It's that time again, the Rhino Beetles are back. I'm always happy when these little guys show up. The cat has been visiting us at work for the last few days and she seems to have made friends with the beetles. She played with the beetle, but didn't hurt or eat it. Everything completely relaxed. No animals were harmed during this photo shoot.

One word in many languages. #peace I discovered these flags yesterday during a small celebration. A nice idea. Oh, and the toilets there were not divided into man/woman, but into sitting/standing. Another nice idea. I like the place.
Now that's what I call a backup. I can't tell you where it is for reasons of confidentiality. But I think someone here has printed out all their zip files. Safety first!

Since I won't have time when the #free #PC #game is unlocked at Epic today, I'm announcing it to you now. In 7 hours it will be available for free: - Supraland "A mix of Portal, Zelda and Metroid. Explore, solve puzzles, fight monsters, find secret upgrades and new skills to reach new places. Play time: 12-25 hours." The trailer looks pretty fun, maybe someone will enjoy it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=viUJ_oTqYJ0 As always, have fun!

The little forest in the pot I almost forgot to give you an update on the slow explosion of seed bombs. In the meantime, they have grown into a small forest and I'm very excited to see what flowers are growing here.
Wombatgamers have just announced their own $WOMBAT token. Now streaming live on Twitch. https://www.twitch.tv/wombatgamers

Ledger Live integrates Cardano ADA. Some have probably been waiting for this news.
What I don't like so much is the time between the weekends. It can even happen that I don't make any noise, like yesterday. But that's real life. It's exhausting, but the graphics are cool.
Throw seeds, not bombs! Just two days after I dropped the seed bombs on the fertile soil, the first seedlings shoot out of the ground. Please forgive this "special military operations" rhetoric. Sometimes I am just tactless. But I am happy that new life is emerging. I have already counted a total of 8 sprouts. Soon the whole window will be full of flowers. A beautiful gift from my son, it will delight me all summer long.
Our country introduced a 9€-ticket at the beginning of the month, which allows you to use all regional trains in the country for one month. So today I decided to take my son home by train. Environmentally friendly, relaxed, quiet. IT COULD BE SO NICE! Of course, millions of other people have come up with the idea and the railway company is completely overwhelmed by the situation. Delays, crowds, chaos, lack of hygiene. If you're wondering where all the covid infections are…
Either I have strange people in the neighbourhood or inflation is progressing faster than expected.

Seed bombs My son gave me these homemade seed bombs for Father's Day. Yesterday I put them in the ground, together with a portion of spent grains from a brewer friend as fertiliser. It smells like a pigsty but I hope it will give the flowers a good start.
This weekend there is no major hike but I have prepared some impressions from last Sunday. A forest used for commercial purposes is not always nice to look at, but there are small highlights to discover.

My son and I have just come back from a little walk in an old piece of green in the middle of the city. 13 hectares of unbuilt old land between residential areas. A now overgrown cultivated landscape, used for agriculture since the Middle Ages. Officially closed off, but I'm not interested in the ban. For a little picnic and some frisbee, there is no better place nearby. Beautiful meadows, old trees, forest paths and peace. It's just stupid that investors want to build there…

Have you always wanted to be a shark? With this #free #PC #game you have the opportunity to do so, because "Man Eater" offers exactly that. You are the shark and hunt everything that comes in front of you. "As a young animal, you must survive in the unforgiving world and eat your way up the ecosystem. This is fine! #BAT #Brave
No time for my own photos today but my parents sent some pictures. They had a visit from a cheeky and apparently not at all shy blue tit (Blaumeise). They belong to the common species with about 4 million breeding pairs in Germany. Here we see a female. Males have a black stripe on their belly.

You can see that I hardly ever come here any more. There are just too few hours in the day in real life and I'm almost never at home on my noisy computer these days. Don't worry, I won't leave you but I can't split up either.
