"Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it."
Proverbs 4:23 NIV
This is the verse that my Bible app gave me this morning. It is a beautiful verse that is very useful in our daily life. We guard many things every day. We protect our money, cars, homes, and other miscellaneous material objects that we just - couldn't live without---right?
However, do we guard our hearts? How we guard our heart and minds. I decide what is good or what I believe, right?
I think for a part we do have the final say of what we think is good or choose to believe. However, what happens when we expose our heart and minds to ungodly input? Do we accept it or do we reject it? This is an important question. If we reject it, would we choose to experience it again. Would we stick around to see or hear more?
This is the problem. We expose ourselves to these inputs throughout the day. Maybe our subconscious tunes them out, but our subconscious mind doesn't. Whether it's music, TV, friends, conversations, or social media, it makes its way into our hearts.
We are terrible at monitoring ourselves, but much better at monitoring others. Have you ever had a friend that liked a show so much that he or she started talking like that show? Sometimes they don't even like the show. Sometimes its the news or media that we tend to "tune out". However, we don't really tune it all out. It gets into us like advertising jingles.
Please, me friend. Guard your heart. Keep it healthy in worship, prayer, and reading the Bible. Stay away from people and things that hurt your heart. Use your spiritual armor. Be brave.
