“Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.”

Today’s verse reminds us that we are not in a perfect world. In fact, this world is sometimes very hostile to the message of Christ.
First, we must be as wise as serpents. This is interesting for me, because of the imagery of serpents. However, they are wise and shrewd animals. We have snagged where we live and I’ve never caught on with its guard down.
Harmless as doves. We also have the commandment of Jesus to love our neighbors, forgive, and not to judge. If we truly put this in our hearts, we should be harmless.
Even though we are sent out as sheep, we are accompanied with the Holy Spirit. Trust in the Lord.
