🗞 Coinbase to Support Spark Token Airdrop to XRP Holders
Coinbase announced Saturday it plans to support an upcoming airdrop that has been seen as a factor in boosting XRP’s price in recent weeks.
The San Francisco-based exchange said in a blog post that Coinbase customers with XRP (XRP, +4.27%) balances as of midnight UTC on Dec. 12, 2020 will receive Spark tokens from Coinbase at a later date.
“The amount of Spark you’ll receive depends on how much XRP you had in your account at the snapshot time,” Coinbase wrote. Details about the airdrop will be posted this week, a company spokesperson told CoinDesk.
“Flare’s token, Spark is created through what may be the first ever utility fork whereby the origin network, in this case the XRP Ledger, benefits through increased utility,” the team behind the smart-contract project wrote in August.
🗞 Ethereum Hits Highest "Realized” Price Since 2018 Bull Run
Ethereum’s “realized” price just hit a two-year high of $287.
“Realized” price is different from current price as it only takes into account active coins.
Ethereum’s current price and the amount of addresses holding one of more ETH are also on the up.
Ethereum’s “realized” price just hit a two-year high of $287.09, according to data metrics site Glassnode.
The news comes not long after Ethereum—along with Bitcoin—hit new highs with its “realized” price when it touched $257 last month.
🗞 Synthetic assets get real: Competition for scalability, new markets heats up
Synthetic assets, one of the most promising use cases for decentralized finance (DeFi), is becoming an increasingly competitive landscape as two new projects aim to bring scalability and new markets to traders.
On Friday, decentralized derivatives exchange Injective Protocol began a push into synthetic assets with the launch of a 24/7 synthetic gold market on their Solstice layer-2 testnet.
“It's fairly interesting to explore gold for the first commodity futures on Injective because Bitcoin and Gold has fairly interesting market dynamics,” Mira Uddin, Injective head of business development told Cointelegraph. “I think it's natural to introduce that dynamic to the DeFi space.”
Synthetic asset markets like Injective’s often feature a notoriously tricky liquidity problem. To create assets that track real-world price movements, there must be a readily available pool of liquidity to accommodate for those fluctuations. Injective aims to overcome these hurdles with well-funded investors serving as early users:
🗞 Fraudulent Crypto Browser Extension Redirects to a Fake Metamask Domain
Chrome Browser Extension Is Redirecting Crypto Users to a Fake Metamask Site
According to an alert published by Ciphertrace, since December 2, 2020, they have been noticing “an uptick of alerts and comments” about crypto funds stolen via a Chrome browser extension posing as the ethereum (ETH)-based wallet Metamask.
The fraudulent extension redirects victims to installmetamask.com, which is not an official site of Metamask. Per Whois information, the web domain was registered on November 29, 2020. Ciphertrace found out the first mention in Twitter of the fraudulent domain from a user who asked Metamask team about the site’s authenticity.
The firm has been in contact with the crypto wallet company about the situation. Also, Metamask issued the following warning through their official Twitter account:
