LAZINESS

I cried. The girl in the mirror stared at me with disgust. She was almost the size of our dining table and in her hand was a bag of greasy potato chips.

"Tomorrow, we will start it tomorrow," the girl whispered to her. "We will do it tomorrow, right?"

I snapped my head to the lone picture in my desk, a photograph taken a week before my dad had a heart attack that took his life. He was a whopping three hundred pounds at the time. He loved eating more than anything else in the world and despised exercise as much as he hate tying his own shoes.

A low growl escaped my lips. I heard mom talking to my grandma a week ago, she was scared that I would be having the same fate as my father. I wasn't even a teen, well not for three months, and yet I was almost two hundred pounds. Walking three blocks tires me easily and I find solace in food.

You would see me stuffing my face with food all day long. It worsened my dad died, my psychiatrist said it was my coping mechanism for grief. And my mom was happy to oblige with my need of food to chow down. She enabled my addiction that resulted to the monster in the mirror.

She was too fat. Too fat that she couldn't even see her own feet.

I squeezed my shut. "It is now or never. If I don't start today, when will I?" I struggled to get my shoes on but when I did, it was the most fulfilling thing I have ever done in my life! I run the stairs with a renewed energy. I'm have battled the first hurdle.

"Where are you going, Tanya?" mom asked over the counter seeing me all hyped.

"I'm running. Better to start now, right?" I said and she mirrored my smile. Laziness won't bring me progress, in order to succeed I need to put a little effort.
