So this artist I meet through a great Telegram channel set up by Nifybc and if you don't know who that is check out M.O.R.B.S plus I have interviewed about his brilliant project but he told there was an artist I need to chat to so I set up an interview with the artist and here it is ...
Hi
Hi
So how you today ?
Pumped! And how about you?
I am good tired but hey that's life . So what you up to today ?
Well I finished work 4 hours ago, played with the kids, fed them, put them to bed and now I'm designing the next stage of my NFTs
Nice so what is your NFT project called ?
The Damn Tasty Corn Chips
I am going to guess you like chips or in Ireland crisps
Of course! Corn chips especially. Cheesy. Crispy...
And what your name ?
Matt
Where you from ?
Australia
Whats your Twitter for people to follow you?
https://twitter.com/CornchipsDCS?s=09
And your Telegram channel ?
https://t.me/cornchipsdcs
Where did you find out about NFT's ?
A friend pitched the idea to me in a message to try and sell my digital race livery designs as NFTs about 2 months ago. But I read the link he sent for 5 minutes and gave up because I didn't 'get it'. He tried to tell me in person and still didn't really grasp the concept. But instead of giving up I fired up a flare on Facebook asking if anyone could explain it to me like I'm an idiot.
Then DedHed (NFT artist) came along and basically walked me through the entire process....explaining exactly how they work and why I should do it
The community is always very helpful How come cone you choose wax blockchain?
Simply because that was the blockchain DedHed was using. He showed me how it all works as he was teaching me about NFTs and his project. I've since learned that Wax is one of the most energy efficient blockchains and it's purpose built for NFTs. Especially trading cards. So by luck, it was the perfect fit for my corn chip characters I created to be printed and framed hanging on the walls of Mexican restaurants and Inner West Sydney suburbs hipster cafes, or even on Tee Shirts marketed on print-on-demand websites... the Wax blockchain fits like a new pair of underwear.
You already had your chip characters before you found NFT ?
A few of them. It was an idea I had and shelved for over a year. I created more once I realized 6 weren't enough for a trading card collection
How many NFT's have you created so far?
In series 1 there are 18 characters across 4 variations of cards. Base, silver, gold and holographic.
And can you blend the characters ?
You can blend the duplicates. So if you have 3 of one character in the base cards, you gend blend up to a silver, 3 silvers can get you a gold and 3 golds will get you a holographic. Blending the characters themselves are on the to do list for series 2, like a Corn chip Frankenstein gig.
And are your selling them separate and as packs ?
I have 3 main packs that have different quantities of cards and chances for special cards and range from $6.99 to $12.99. I also have a limited edition 'Inchiption' mega pack which has packs inside a pack with a 3% chance of having a packs inside a pack inside a pack.
Oh wow and is your project whitelisted ?
Yes! I made sure I was whitelisted before I dropped Series 1
What's the long term goal with project as in to be coming full time and selling merch ?
That would be a dream come true! For now it's about utilizing these new tools I've found to finally get my art into a market place that has shown signals that it actually wants it there.
I love designing for clients, and making signs at my full time job, but to just let my creativity flow in front of thousands of eyes and building up a community that could sustain me doing this after work is awesome. Doing it full time is I think a long way away. So yes, it's a goal for sure.
For now I'll just concentrate on trying to better myself every time I create something and hope at least a few collectors dig my little corn chip idea.
What is your full time job at the moment?
I'm a sign writer by trade working in a design, print and marketing position.
So I take Covid has impacted your job ?
Not at all actually. We didn't shut down at all through the pandemic. We've been pretty lucky over here.
Wow so how long is each NFT taking to create at the moment for thought to creation ?
From the moment I started talking with DedHed up until my drop was about 5 weeks. Every night I'd work on putting this whole thing together from about 7pm to midnight including the deign of the cards, most of the characters, learning the industry, building the community, creating a website and all the social media pages, pack designs, numbers, blend mechanics...
Yeah I'm pretty proud I got all that done in 5 weeks.
Two nights ago I learned how to animate and designed my first NFT that moves for a collab with NIFTY BC of M.O.R.B.S.
and that took maybe 4 hours
Heres the drop for that not sure if this will be up in time for it. But for your knowledge...
https://neftyblocks.com/c/cornchipsdcs/drops/410+416
Cool M.O.R.B.S project is really exciting
Where can we find your NFT's for sale on Atomichub ?
https://wax.atomichub.io/explorer/collection/cornchipsdcs
So your open to Collab's ?
Always! I love working with other artists. Bouncing ideas off each other is great and I think more artists should do it instead of competing.
Is there an artist you would love to work with ?
No names come to mind right now though in the future I'd love to work with rock and metal bands and make them as Corn Chip characters. Also, any 3D artists that could bring these corn chips to life in a video game as a skin or even in the AR world. But I'm always up for banging brains with any other artists and seeing what comes out.
Are you a collector as well as an artist ?
I collected basketball cards, baseball caps and marionette puppets since I was young. These days most of my money goes towards supporting my family so not so much these days. In saying that if I see an art piece I like whether it's a painting or an NFT and I can afford it, I'll grab it.
What's your favorite NFT you have made?
That's a tough one.
You must have one that you love
I'd say its the whole project I'm working on now. Every card from my series 1 collection that has been burned to upgrade to the next tier have been counted and recorded. I will be bringing the exact number of those characters back from the dead as a zombie corn chips. People that have collected a special signature card from series 1 will get a special invite token to purchase packs of these zombie cards. The packs will include another special card that will be either a shotgun or a shotgun shell. Once you have two shells and the shotgun, you can blend them to receive a loaded weapon. Once you've got that card, you'll be able to blend it with any of the zombie cards to collect the pinnacle card of the series: The kill card. Each character kill card will be a uniquely animated card of you basically blowing the zombie chip's brains out.
That sounds exciting so and when will these set start to appear on Atomichub and neftyblocks ?
I'm aiming for Friday the 13th of August. Not just because its Friday the 13th though, it'll give me time to learn how to master animation and get all the cards and the mechanics of it ready. I want to release it as pre-minted packs on Nefty Blocks so hopefully that'll be ready before then too.
Also it gives collectors a chance to burn more series one cards to make the zombie numbers a bigger one.
So will there be more chips NFT's dropped before then ?
just Collab's and promos. There's still plenty of packs available to buy so I don't really need to add to the Series.
Oh that's cool so your hopping for a lot of Collab's ?
Yeah I'm open to anything at the moment! I've got a Collab with a friend who took some amazing photos of Australia during his travels that I'm going to try and get him started on his NFT career. He's been hospitalized a few times back in his home country of Germany and really could use some financial help. His photos are amazing so I'll be trying to promote his work. I've also got one in the works with an Australian band called Red Sea. I'd love to see musicians take advantage of the converse uses of NFTs. I approached them explaining they need to get on the NFT train and ride it into the future.
So you are trying to promote NFT's to everyone and how about your family so do they like it ?
I've been real excited about NFTs so yeah I've been telling everyone I know about them. The Mrs can't believe something like this exists, my son loves the fact I'm making corn chips and tells his teachers that I sell corn chips that you don't eat. The family is very supportive with all my creative projects so I'm lucky there.
Yea I recently convinced my girlfriend to start creating its still a very new market
I am guessing you have always been artistic ?
Yeah I have. I was always drawing as a kid and doodling when I should have been doing homework.
Ha ha are you into crypto or is wax your first crypto currency ?
Wax is pretty much the only one I know anything about. And I've only just scratched the surface
And are you thinking at looking at other crypto ?
In the future yes, but at the moment my full attention is on the art.
Of course so when is your next release ?
The Nifty BC Collab drop happens 12pm AEST 20/05/21 (tomorrow) and after that I'll be throwing some cheap pack sales out there to keep the chip packs moving.
Of course so are all the chips hand drawn first ?
They are all digital creations drawn in Adobe illustrator and made into cards on photoshop.
So tell us something random about yourself ?
I was a vocalist in a heavy metal band for 10 years.
I just panicked because Wax dropped to .10c!
lol
Wax was at 0.07 cent when I first got into NFT's plus just be glad that you don't have any other crypto after today
When your not busy making NFT's what do you do for fun ?
Family time first and foremost. Anything dirt racing related, I love my speedway. iRacing is where I can blow off steam racing sprint cars on the simulator. Fun!
Oh cool
Any advice for artists trying to get into NFT's ?
Ask a lot of questions. Build a great community on telegram, ask for help, don't be scared you don't look like you know what you're doing because I don't think any of us really do.
Any chance of a small drop or give away for the readers ?
Yes! I do my promo drops usually with 1000 free NFTs along side a limited better version that has a price on it.
Do you have a mascot or something I could tie into my theme?
I have this if you could make it into a jumper or t-shirt for your chip to wear lol
Yeah send it over I'll check it out. I have to go to bed, its pretty late. Feel free to throw anything else you wanna ask and I'll get to them in the morn
Yeah Done! I'll whip that up tomorrow
Thanks for the chat and the promo you're doing! Awesome work man. Chat again soon.
No problems get some sleep last question I have for the moment is anything else you want to add before I let you go
Just that I've never been made to feel so welcome into a community like this. I wanna thank everyone who has helped and supported me like the guys from the Nifty Show, Defi expectations, DedHed, everyone in my telegram and everyone that's collecting The Damn Tasty Corn Chips. What a wild ride it's been so far and I'm only getting started.
Thanks so much for your time get some sleep
