This article is based on a true-life event, before I begin, the inspiration came from @FarmGirl article, you can check it here, after reading the article, I remembered this event that transpired years back.
There was this guy that was doing a mechanical job in my street back then, everyone knew him, not only because he's a mechanic, but also a friendly person, though most times he likes owing the nearby store some change, there was this young girl that was selling food with a wheelbarrow, sometimes when the guy buy food from her, she will add extra meat for him, the day the guy won't have money to buy food, the girl will give him free food, this continued for a long while until both of them started dating, the girl will be visiting him at work to bring lunch for him and also give him dinner before he closes for the day, the guy was 4 years older than the lady, anytime we see the girl coming to our street, we always know it’s because of her boyfriend, sometimes the girl will go to the guy’s house and watch some clothes for him, both of them was happy in the relationship, until one day we were no longer see the guy again, we asked the boss and he told us that the guy said he was traveling to his hometown, we said okay, at least he will be back very soon, months past and he wasn’t back, the was still selling food and she wasn’t worried about his whereabouts.
We knew something was up but we don't know what it was, people that are friends with him on Facebook started seeing his post, they were happy that the guy was in Europe, hustling for money, the news started spreading like a wildfire, people were requesting his Facebook so they can reach him, after 6years, the guy came back to Nigeria and reunite with his family and friends when he and his friend went to have some good time together, then one of them rose a topic and asked him if he had been talking with her, he said yes and he will like to marry her, the friends were shocked and ask him if he didn't date any white girl there in Europe and why he still have this girl at heart, the guy told his friends that, when I was looking for money to travel out, I came to all of you one after the other and only a few supported me, which I understand because we all have our responsibilities and things we need money for, few of my family members also support with little that they have, but you see that girl, she half of the money that I needed, she said that she borrowed it and she will pay back later, I just have to go to Europe, she believed in me, when no one did, she was there when no one was, and before I left, I made a promise to her that when I come back, I will take her with me and we will build our family there, that's the main reason I am here in Nigeria (to take her along with me).
That month they did the introduction and the following month, they did the wedding, after the wedding, the guy process his wife papers, and they both moved to Europe together as a family, the last time I check, they have two lovely kids together, it wasn't easy for both of them to stay faithful to each other for more than five years, but they did anyway.
Conclusion
Although the girl must have given her half of the money, that doesn't guarantee that he will come and marry her, I have also seen some who travel to Europe and decide to start a family there, forgetting the promise they made to their partners.
I can't think about a title for it, that’s why I title it “a promise made” lol.
