Overview
A hardware wallet or hard wallet is the best possible option as far as cryptocurrency and security are concerned. For those of you who are new i only cover services or in this case products i have tested personally. There are three major competitors in this industry Ledger, Trezor, and Keepkey. I am currently waiting for my Trezor to be delivered so Ledger being the only one i currently use is the only one getting covered.
Personally i think that Trezor is better but i cant in good faith review a product i haven't even used. Upon delivery and subsequent use/testing ill review Trezor.
Vires in numeris
Vires in numeris is a latin term meaning strength in numbers. Strength in numbers is also the lock screen message on the ledger nano s. Today ill cover both ledger nano s and ledger nano x my experience with both and how the two differ.
Ledger nano S
Ledger nano s is the cheapest model available with a price of $59.00 USD and a maximum storage of 160 kb. Storage to clarify refers to app capacity apps on ledger live refer to cryptocurrency types so BTC wallet is one app. The cryptocurrency on said app isn't stored on your device so you can delete the app and your crypto is safe on the block-chain. The capacity is more about the apps installed at one time that facilitate interface with your assets.
One app or crypto type takes 40 kb so the overall capacity is 4 apps simultaneously installed. Though your cryptocurrency is stored on the block chain the app is needed to facilitate deposit and withdrawal. Majority of consumers probably don't have more than 4 types of crypto in their portfolio. However those like myself whom hodl more than 4 assets. Those that surpass the $100 mark i hodl total 8 different currencies currently. This led to a interface issue that can be quite time consuming especially when you add to each frequently.
Depending on the user Nano s is quite useful especially for the price it cant beet security. However the interface is somewhat rudimentary and requires a computer to operate with either linux, windows, or ios such as mac. Many of the other advanced versions of hard wallets allow for a blue tooth access via a smartphone or have a built in interface that doesn't require a computer. So it has some issues in regards to accessibility this is what led me to upgrade.
Ledger nano x
Priced at an affordable $119.00 USD the ledger nano x is worth the price. The storage on nano s has the capacity for 3-20 apps while the nano x boasts a maximum app capacity of 100. More over it offers a vastly improved interface with ledger live.
