The Emperor’s New Clothes

PS: For entertainment purposes only.

The Emperor was standing in front of his mirror. He was not happy. There was a royal parade in three weeks. All the important people in the land would be there.

“I can’t wear these old clothes for the royal parade,” said the Emperor.

“But they are the best in the land,” said the minister.

“Send for new clothes,” said the Emperor.

Clothes were sent from all over the land. But the Emperor didn’t like any of them.

One day, the Emperor’s minister went to the market. He heard two tailors talking.

“The clothes we make are so fine that only the best people can see them!” said one tailor.

“They are so fine,” agreed the other, “that only the best and cleverest people can see them!”

“We can make the best clothes,” they said.

The minister took the two tailors to the Emperor.

“We have made clothes for kings and sultans,” they boasted. “Our clothes are so fine that only the cleverest people can see them!”

“Make me the best clothes in the land,” said the Emperor.

“I will pay you a lot of gold,” he told them. But the two tailors played a trick. When the minister came to see them, they pretended to be very busy.

“Look at this cloth we are weaving,” said the first tailor.

“It is so fine that only the cleverest people can see it!” said the other tailor. He handed a piece of cloth to the minister.

The minister wanted to look like a clever man.

He couldn’t see any cloth, but he did not say so.

The minister hurried back to the palace. He handed the pretend piece of cloth to the Emperor.

“This cloth is so fine that only the cleverest people can see it!” said the minister.

The Emperor wanted to show the minister how clever he was. He couldn’t see any cloth, but he didn’t say so.

“I will look the best on my big day,” he said.

The minister went to see the tailors again. They pretended to be very busy.

“Look at these clothes we are sewing,” said the first tailor.

“They are so fine that only the cleverest people can see them!” said the other tailor.

The minister wanted to show the tailors how clever he was.

He still couldn’t see any clothes, but he did not say so.

At last, the day of the royal parade arrived. The two tailors helped the Emperor into his pretend clothes. The Emperor stood in front of his mirror. He was very happy.

“These clothes are the best in the land,” said the Emperor.

But there were no clothes. It was all a trick!

The two bad tailors got away with it!

The Emperor walked down the stairs wearing nothing at all. Two servants held the pretend corners of the Emperor’s pretend cloak. Lots of important people were waiting

They nodded and bowed to the Emperor.

The streets were full. People had come from all over the land to watch the royal parade. The crowd began to cheer when they saw the Emperor’s horse coming. But as the parade came closer, the crowd went quiet and started to whisper.

The Emperor looked around.

They were talking about him.

The children at the front of the crowd pointed at the Emperor.

“The Emperor’s got no clothes on!” they laughed.

All the people laughed at him.

What a very silly man!

Pretending will not give you happiness because you know in yourself that there is something you are trying to hide from the people around you.

We all know that pretending isn’t a good way of introducing yourself, right? But why there are still many people trying to hide their true self by pretending? Maybe because they knew they imperfections, and to be able to fit, adopt and accepted by the environment they lived in pretending becomes their choice.
