PID (Pelvic Inflammatory Disease)

Inflammation (usually infectious) of the pelvic reproductive organs: the uterus, tubes, and ovaries in women and the prostate and seminal vesicles in men. The commonest cause of PID is thought to be a sexually transmitted infection (Gonorrhea and Chlamydia), though it may also occur following childbirth or abortion, surgical procedures on the reproductive organs or lower urinary tract, or appendicitis (especially ruptured). Like most STDs, PID has been diagnosed more often since the mid-1970s than previously. Symptoms of acute PID are severe lower abdominal pain, fever, and often a foul discharge from the vagina or penis. There may be associated symptoms of cystitis. The onset of chronic PID may be insidious, especially in women, who may experience few or no symptoms until the inflammatory process is well advanced. Whether acute or chronic, PID can lead to scarring and adhesions in the reproductive organs which may reduce fertility. Early diagnosis and vigorous treatment with appropriate antibiotics will reduce the risk of reproductive system damage.

The pelvic inflammatory disease is much broader and expaneded than this, and as stated it can result from child birth, abortion or sexually transmitted diseases, I get to know of P.I.D. through my mom who is a medical practitioner just last year, thank you for bringing this highlight here. I know of inflammation as swelling or outgrow of a particular part or area of our body
