Root crops like sweet potato or kamote in our dialect is one of our alternative food for our meal back then.

My family is poor and we lived at the mountain area when I was a kid.We even does'nt have an electricity but despite of being poor ,we are still happy though a lot of times that we felt hungry but so grateful that we able to survive those days.

We are not living now like rich but I can say that we are there was a big differences compare our life situation before.

Yesterday ,our neighbor sell thier sweet potato to us.My mother in-law bought 5kilos of it as I don't have anymore money coz I already spent it for our viand.I cooked the sweet potato for our afternoon snacks with some banana from my brother inlaw. And while looking at the cooked sweet potato it makes me to remember my childhood days.

When I was a kid ,every time week-end during the harvesting of sweet potato ,we usually visits those huge potato farm. Its not owned by us ,we are only asking the owner if we can gathered some "turok"or the left sweet potato after it was harvested.

The owner of that farm was so kind ,so he letting us to gathered some turok from his farm.We can gathered almost a half sack of it.Yes,a lot of sweet potato that left under the soil and we can identify it if its a sweet potato when it theres already a young leaves.

Sometimes ,my mom makes some nilidgid ,its a delicacy made of sweetpotato and we sell it.

My parents was taking care of my granfather's small lot and sometimes they planted some cassava and sweet potato.

Having a sweet potato in the table for meal ,makes me feel sad honestly.I and my siblings aee wishing to have rice and viand in the table but we don't have.

My parents especially my father keeps reminding us to be grateful whatever we had in the table ,the most important thing is we can have something for our hungry tummy. As a mom ,I know how does my mother feels everytime she sees us eating some root crops instead of rice.

And now that I am already an adult ,I realize how lucky we are despite oyr situation we are blessed to have something in our table. As I 've seen a lot of documentaries about the poor community ,I realize how blessed we are.We may not living a good life but the important thing is we able to survive.

And now ,I am always searching for this kind of food,a lot of times I am craving with cassava ,banana and sweet potato and how thankful I am for this food for saving our hungry tummies back then.

And that's if for my sweet potato story ,thanks for ready and have a great wednesday!

I remember the time na lagi namin almusal at meryenda yang kamoeng kahoy. Di ko sya fully gusto pero jan ko tlga narealize na kapag mahirap ka, kaya kang pakainin ng libre ng nature basta alagaan mo lang mga tanim mo. 🙂

Boiled cassava and banana are also my favorite snack. If you are in the province there is an abundant supply of those crops.
