Weird cat behaviours explained: Purring It is a common believe that it's good when cats are purring. They feel comfortable and like whatever you're doing. Just being nearby or petting them or whatever. BUT! That's not always true. Cats also purr when they are NOT comfortable. For example, if they have a toothache they may purr to try to feel more comfortable with the pain or when they were scared by someone or something they may purr to calm down again. You should always read the whole body language. Are the ears looking forwards? Is the tail high up? Then it's probably a good sign. Are the ears leaned back? Is the tail close to the legs? Then the cat might have a pain or it might be scared of someone/something.
