In perspective of an auntie sitter
Hi new moms with a child in an early stage might find it difficult to teach their child to listen and obey. I am a 20 year old college student but I babysit my niece and nephew at an early age and this is what I've learned during that time. Here are some tips to make your child open their ears to you.
Look at them in the eyes
Whenever you give instructions make sure that you're looking them in the eyes. This helps you to confirm that they are listening to you because children at early age tends to get distracted easily.
Reasons to obey
If you told them to do something always include reason or reasons why they should obey you. Since children in curiosity stage ask questions a lot and often can't grasp the things newly introduced to them if they can't find the reason why they have to do it.
Disobeying will result to what?
After you gave them reason to obey you, don't forget to include the consequences if they don't do what you told them to do. This will help them to think that disobeying you is not a good idea and it will not benefit them either.
Be firm
You should be true to your words. Whatever punishment that you told them for disobeying you must be carried out to avoid them from doubting you. Saying words that you can't do may be a root for stubbornness of a child.
Example:
"Red, come here I have to tell you something. Look me in the eyes honey Mommy's giving instructions. So, you have to eat your meals ok? Eating your meal makes your body stronger. You will be able to play more, it will also help your brain to understand new things. If you don't eat your meals, you'll get sick, thinner, and you will not be able to play anymore. You understand that? If you don't follow me and still skip your meal or eat in a very small amount, I will not allow you to play outside or even play with your toys, I really mean it so you have to follow me, ok?"
Hope you learn something😊
