I wasn't born with a pen neither was I born with a paper. I learnt to write.
Mama always said I was very interested in knowing how to write my name than in learning how to write the twenty six alphabets.
My name is Kemi, most people assume I'm Yoruba but I'm Igbo. My mom just enjoys doing things that people will find absurd which to her makes her unique, hence she gave me, an Igbo girl, a Yoruba name.
Mama is a writer, a successful writer. She's wrote many books and has won the Orange award for literature (I don't know if that's the real way it's spelt).
I starting writing stories and little articles when I was ten. I can't draw.
Mama said that the pen is stronger than the sword. I didn't believe her for sometime. I watch the number of people who die daily from the swords, gun invlusive though mama never mentioned guns and bombs.
When I argued with Mama that the pen I useless. She will usually at and say "you will learn as you grow".
And I learnt as I grew. I learnt about the power of the media and the way people struggle to control it.
I wanted to be part of those who controlled the media which ultimately controlled the masses. I became a journalist. I wrote a lot. I welded the power to make or break. I welded the power to swap the mind of thousands.
And as I type i know that each tap on my keyboard is powerful.
I'm powerful.
I'm strong...
All because of the pen.
Mama is dead. She died a long time ago but not before i told her that she's right.
"The pen is stronger than the sword"
