The current government headed by Shahbaz Sharif almost immediately reacted to the situation.
Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif condemned the assassination attempt on Khan and cancelled a press conference for his trip to China. He ordered Interior Minister Rana Sanaulla to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident.
Defense Minister Khawaja Asif expressed regret over the escalation of the internal political situation in Pakistan and stated the need for dialogue between the warring parties.
Former Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and current Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto condemned the incident.
