The importance of water in our lives
May 10, 2022
Greetings dear readers! With this article I want to continue promoting a healthy lifestyle through a proper diet. We are a reflection of what we eat and drink. If our diet is balanced and nutritious, we will have less risk of getting sick and we will be more energetic; on the contrary, if our diet does not provide our body with the necessary nutrients, we run the risk of getting sick more frequently. Today the main protagonist of this publication is "DRINKING WATER".
Introduction
We all learned in school that the human body is composed of 60% to 80% water (depending on age), and we also learned that this water must be renewed. For this reason, the renewal of our body and our health depend to a great extent on the adequate consumption of drinking water. In other words, water constitutes approximately 2/3 of our body weight. The amount of water in the body depends on age, in infants it is approximately 80%, in adolescents 70%, in adults 65% and in the elderly 60% of body weight.
There has long been talk that a person should drink 2 to 2.5 liters of water per day, but this statement is not entirely correct. Most healthy people meet their daily water needs based on the sensation of thirst. For healthy people, there are no exact recommendations for water intake, since water requirements vary considerably among individuals and are influenced by physical activity and climatic conditions (In hot weather, more water is consumed than in cold weather. A person who practices sports and is in constant movement consumes more water than one who has a sedentary lifestyle).
The regulation of water balance is closely related to electrolyte balance. If there is too much water in the body, more dilute urine is excreted, and if the concentration of electrolytes in the body fluids is too high, the thirst center in the brain is stimulated, which causes a sensation of thirst and the excretion of water by the kidneys decreases. Fluid loss occurs in urine and feces, and also evaporates through the skin and respiratory tract.
Healing effects of water and its importance to health
The healing properties of water have been known since ancient times. Our ancestors used water to cure many diseases; people visited a bathhouse, took several showers and simply drank water extracted from the bowels of the earth. Of course, the therapeutic effect can only be achieved when using pure water, which is not contaminated with impurities and harmful chemical microorganisms.
Among the most important elements of water for health we can mention:
1. It is the main element of the human body; therefore it is of vital importance for organ function and thermoregulation. More substances dissolve in water than in any other solvent. Most of the chemical reactions that take place in our cells require water.
2. It is necessary to transport nutrients and oxygen to all the cells of the body. Helps convert food into energy and absorb nutrients. Restores the functioning of blood vessels and joints.
3. It maintains the stability of body temperature in any climate, protects vital organs, and is important for the health of the skin. It participates in both the internal and external cleansing work of the body, helping the body to rid itself of wastes through the elimination of toxins through sweat and urine, and serves as a treatment for poisoning with caustic substances (dilutes them). Water also promotes respiration.
4. Only water can really quench your thirst: no juice, tea or coffee can achieve the desired satisfaction. All human organs and systems contain fluid and, therefore, a certain amount of water is important for maintaining health and prolonging life.
Conclusion
Water is life. All forms of life, from the smallest to the largest need water to live. Most of our planet is made up of water. These data show us how essential this element is for the survival of any living being, and human beings are not exempt from needing it. My intention, dear reader, is to invite you to reflect on the importance of this vital liquid in our organism. Consuming the necessary water every day helps us to be healthy and prolongs our life.
I encourage you to change your habits and to pursue a healthy lifestyle, omit the consumption of soft drinks, diet drinks, energy sodas and any other drinks that do not bring benefits to your health and replace them with pure and natural water.
Remember that happiness is a choice; therefore choose to be happy.
Thank you for existing. See you soon!
