Global Divides and the Things that Separates Them

In this modern world where everything is changing, there are still those who are left behind.

In this world where everyone wants equality for everyone, it is ironic that there are still countries that are poorer ones. In a world who seeks unity, we have what we call global divides. The Global North and Global South are the classifications of our world economies.

Countries in the North are considered More Economically Developed Countries (MEDC) because they are more economically stable and doing better in their standard of living and quality of life. Moreover, these countries particularly have high life expectancy, free quality education and free universal healthcare as an indication of more progressive economy.

More Economically Developed Countries are those that have strong economies where citizens. Countries in the North like United States, Canada and Australia are high-income or economically richer countries which enjoy good education, better health care, and employment opportunities.

The Global North are more economically developed because they are developed and advanced technologically which enables them to stabilize their economy. Being properly equipped, they can use innovative methods to stabilize their economies. Furthermore, having better technologies these countries focuses more on secondary industries, such as manufacturing goods, and service industries, such as banking and insurance, which yield higher incomes making these countries wealthier.

Countries of the North considered as MEDC are rich countries because they were rich to begin with. They have developed their economies faster and have gone a long way because they were powerful since the beginning. Many of those countries in the North were once colonizers and have taken a lot of wealth during their era of colonization. These countries are more developed because of their government leadership which led them to richer economies.

Countries in the South including countries in Africa, Latin America and developing countries in the Asia, are considered Less Economically Developed Countries (LEDC) because they are low-income countries that still struggle to improve their economies. They are considered as LEDC because of their unsteady governments.

These countries have poor economies characterized with low Gross Domestic and low Human Development Index. Countries in the South are less developed because their citizens have a poor standard of living and quality of life. People in these countries have poor living conditions that they struggle to meet ends. Therefore, they also have poor nutrition, health care, and education. These poor countries are confronting critical structural barriers to sustainable development. They are extremely vulnerable to commercial and environmental collapses and have moderate levels of human assets.

The Global South countries depend on agriculture, trade, and industries which are not very secure and may go downhill very easily. These are low-yielding industries that may not be able to finance food security and healthcare. They are unstable because natural disasters, such as flooding or earthquakes, can cause so much damage that they may be unrepairable.

Coupled with unstable governments that do not have functional leadership, these countries continue to be inferior compared to the Global North. These countries were usually colonized in history and have stayed on the low ever since because of the incompetency of their governments. Countries in the South do not have advanced technologies yet, and their cities are still rural d not urbanized. They continue to depend on the North for their lack of resources; however, these North countries are preoccupied with their own developments.

Final Thoughts

The world is unfair and unequal - a fact that some of us did not believe, for they allow their eyes to be blinded by the fabricated lies and high pride. With this, I can say that progress is beautiful but cruel to those who are exploited. The countries in the South are the ones who were robbed. When will the world ever change? When will everyone achieve the same prosperity the others are enjoying? It is in our hands to make a difference. Be aware. Be knowledgeable. Be a contributor to our own progress.

This is the sad reality. But this division does not ultimately mean perfect. There are exceptions as to the other countries. Some nation fron the south are more wealthy.

Corrupt government officials and natural disasters are the main problem in the south.
