I was browsing YouTube this morning and found a very interesting video. It was about a teenage kid who was doing a drum cover of Metallica’s Master Of Puppets.
Since I already mentioned him in my intro I'm going to make a brief story about my eagerness to form a rock band and perform on stage. Before I'll go further to my main topic let me first tell you that the kid who was performing a drum cover used a DIY drum set or improvised musical instrument.
As you can see in the screenshot, it seems that the only real part of the instrument was the drumstick. All sort was a recycled container. The snare, tom-tom, cymbal, etc etc. He has done all the cover effortless as if he was using a real drum set. Lars Ulrich (Metallica drummer) should be ashamed (kidding).
Frustrated Musician
When I was in grade 10, four of my classmates approached me and asked if I would be willing to join them as they are forming a teenage rock band. They only need a frontman for the band to be complete.
I did not have a second thought as I have a little talent in identifying the four basic types of voice with mine to be distinguished as a tenor (clears throat 2x).
To make it short we started our rehearsals using the same improvised drum set as in the picture above and borrowed guitars. We did a few gigs in our local area by playing covered rock music. Unfortunately, we ended up unsuccessful with music as a career.
Do Not Be Afraid of Criticism
Let’s forget about it first and go to the main topic of this post. I’m going to make a post about my teenage rock journey on a separate post. Don’t get excited. (laughs)
The screengrab below shows the details of the content. I guess you already know exactly what I mean. Before you finish reading this you can try watching this talented kid on his cover video here. (for music enthusiast only)
The 775 dislike for me is kind of disrespectful. I mean we are not sure that those dislikes were intentional but whether unintentional you can always undo the dislike action.
I think this kid deserves recognition. He has done a lot of drum cover using his bucket/container DIY drum set and yet there is a lot of dislikes.
People have different perspectives. Perhaps some don’t like loud metal music, not a fan of Dream Theater or Metallica, play the cover more perfect and or for whatever reasons that they just hit the dislike button. I need not have judged them for dislikes because I don’t know them anyway.
It’s just that I can sense the enthusiasm of this kid because I can see myself in him.
What I was trying to convey to you here are the people that can’t do anything but pull you down when they see you going up. These people only see negativity.
A Friendly Reminder
I also have a Youtube channel because I was trying my skills of becoming a Youtube influencer somehow. However, I am an introverted person, and talking in front of a camera is one of my weaknesses. So I just do the videos with music and let my hands do the talking. The channel was about DIYs and Electronic projects.
I rarely upload videos as I have no more time to devote to it because aside from I have a daytime job, the extra time I have has been devoted now to read.cash writing.
Recently, I received a comment in one of my videos that say something like he had wasted 3:13 minutes watching the video and that it was stupid and no valuable information. I know that my videos are very basic and obviously I was just starting to build an audience. I also know that there are flaws in my works and that is very different from other Youtube channels.
I visited his channel and found out that he/she has only three subs compared to mine that at least I have 20. He also doesn't have videos or any sort of content contrary to mine that have at least 12 original videos.
I did not show any hostile feelings for I know that people have different views and opinions. People are hard to please. No matter how good your content was, there are still people who will disagree.
Sometimes people tend to give negative impressions on something without looking at themselves first in front of the mirror.
So instead of feeling down with negative remarks to us, let’s accept it as a challenge. Use those critics as motivation. Fight back by means of improving more about our skills and talents.
Humble Deden Noy
Going back to the kid, I just found out that he just continuously does what he loves and it makes him happy. I know for sure he was aware of the dislikers but he was not moved by this.
His latest cover video has a 3.1k view as of writing this post and it was uploaded just 3 hours ago. It was a drum cover of Dream Theater’s Forsaken.
This talented kid has reached Mike Portnoy’s (Dream Theater drummer) awareness and Mike sent him a Sabian Cymbal with enclosed a letter of inspiration.
This only proves that Deden (Indonesian) continuously does his passion without thinking too much of the dislikers.
He is not just a talented musician but a real humble person.
Anyway, I think I have already done three pages of this post and can’t find any words for my ending.
I am making this post as an appreciation for the extraordinary talent of Deden. I hope this article can help him reach other people's generous hearts. If you wish to help him more you can visit his Youtube Channel.
I don’t know this guy, I was just amazed by his talent because I was once like him when I was a teenage kid. I wanted to support him by means of this post.
If you get inspired by this feel free to share your views in the comment.
Thanks for reading. Ciao!
