Busy And Productive

If you want to waste time and do nothing but holding your phone just login to your personal social media account.

How do you start your day? Do you start it by being busy or being productive?

In today’s post I want to share with you how I manage my time with my work from home. In my previous post, I have mentioned that I am not planning to go work on site unless the management needs all employees to do so.

By the way I have also mentioned that we are having a simple eat out and exchange gift and it was successfully celebrated yesterday. We had a few games, food, videoke and exchanging gifts. Then we let the new members have some words and after that I gave them a short speech since I was the oldest tenured employee in the department. It was fun somehow although we were not able to have some beer due to limited time. Another thing was that we held our annual year end party last night. That was the second time that is being celebrated virtually.

Glitz and glam was the theme and unfortunately my name was not picked again for the Christmas giveaway even the minor prizes (laughs). I don’t have luck for any type of raffle draw so I seldom buy raffle tickets if someone would offer me. What’s more frustrating is that those people who are new to the company are the one’s lucky enough to have the prize, aarrgh! One new member from our team was lucky to have one of the major giveaways.

Going back to my topic for today, if your job is mainly working with computers, what is the first thing you do upon login to your PC? Do you check on your Facebook, IG or Twitter account first via the web? How long do you check on your feed before you start working?

First and foremost it is unethical to be checking your social media account if your hours are already running upon time in. Besides, all companies prohibit employees from checking their personal social media account during office hours. Not unless the management allows them to do so or it is needed with regards to their type of job.

But if you do this before you start your day, there is a possibility that you become less productive. When I was working in the printing press, my former boss didn't want to see us holding our phones during working hours. However we can still manage to use our phone and do chatting and facebooking because the boss rarely visits the production area. We were abusive back then and often made errors due to unattended tasks. Worst was that we could even have an accident with the machine because of this habit. More like negligence of duty. So we were so busy but not productive.

Now that I am working in an office it is pretty much different and there is no room for extra activities not related to work. I mean WFH is free from supervision. You can chat and check your personal social media anytime while working. Good thing I deactivated my facebook account last year and honestly there is a lot of time wasted if you started reading your feed with any personal social media.

So if you are like me that has been set to WFH set up you should learn how to manage your time and get the daily task done without supervision. Our nature or work is different from online entrepreneurs and freelance workers where they are their own boss. No immediate superior and supervisor. They can choose the best time for them to work while we follow assigned shift schedules and breaks.

We must understand that being busy doesn’t necessarily mean being productive.

As much as possible I don’t want to set my chat status to “Busy” or “Do not disturbed.” I never use any of them even when I am busy doing my reports. I still tend to respond to any queries from different ops no matter how busy I am.

If you want to be productive you don’t need to block all communications from other departments.

Remember that productivity is measured on how much work you have accomplished in the given timeframe not how long you are busy doing something.

That's true. As for me I make sure I stay away from engaging in the media during working hours in order to avoid any possible clashes with superiors. You know how they are☺

yes indeed. i remember some meme about social media long time ago like if you want to be useful and productive you should deactivate it. 😁
