Painting with water colors after an whole year

So today i tried drawing with water colors again and idk why but some of my water colors are chalky some how now is that something common?

I made a mini little bird First i made layers with basic colors those were brown ,yellow and a slight touch of blue

Gradually i layered more color with a brush and shaded it and gave it some feathers ,eyes and twiggy legs

next i added blue sky and some tree branches and this was the last look
