I thought that we had already missed the chance to fork if we haven't already had our funds moved to the right exchanges?

Your keys, your coins. When the chain splits, the same keys control the tokens in both branches. If you didn't control the keys at the time of the fork (or use "the right exchanges"), then you have missed the chance, but you DO control the keys for your read.cash funds and should control the keys for your other funds as well.

oook so if I had an account in "the right exchanges" before the fork... am I able to move them over there now?

If they were in "the right exchanges" you would now have both currencies in those exchanges and could withdraw each currency to a different wallet separately. If you were in control of your keys, then you would need to understand and follow appropriate directions to split them yourself. In any other scenario, you only have what your chosen custodian says you have. ETA: and even then, only if they let you withdraw it.
