For most people morning is the most productive time. One is fresh from a good night’s sleep, the body and mind both rested fully. It is always better to be an early riser to snatch a few hours from the 24 hours. Early morning gives a few hours of better quality time than those whole try to steal some waking hours at the end of the day. At that time the body and mind is tired and it is difficult to focus attention on anything. If we extend the night waking hours we mostly waste it seeing TV or on the mobile, which is basically unproductive work.

So now we go into the details

When we open our eyes in the morning and still on the bed then it is better to stay that way for 5 minutes at least. Enjoy the feeling of freshness and let the hangover of sleep leave you. Let yourself be completely awake and conscious about the surrounding. When we are lying on the bed the heart does not have to pump the blood very hard but if you suddenly wake up and get out of the bed then the sudden vertical stance makes the heart go into hyper mode immediately. This is one of the reasons why people have heart attacks and strokes mostly in the morning.

Also avoid turning on the lights immediately, let your eyes adjust to the little outside light that is coming from outside and then switch on the lights.

Don’t just reach out to your mobile to catch up with what happened during your sleep. Nothing useful happens in social media that requires your immediate attention on waking up, avoid seeing the latest news as it actually doesn’t affect you and avoid seeing emails from office, that can also wait a few hours. As it is the whole day you are going to do this only. Give your eyes rest from the screen.

After getting up do not straight away drink tea or any other beverages. The first thing to drink in the morning is lukewarm water that too 2-3 glasses. You can put lemon and honey if you wish otherwise plain lukewarm water is good enough. This will help in getting a good bowel movement and also restart the stomach in the correct way. One should take beverages at least one hour after waking up. Also do not start the day with coffee, it is better to have tea or green tea.

Have a healthy breakfast and not a heavy breakfast. The quantity can be as per you diets but avoid meat and heavy things which may make you feel heavy and bloated. You should feel light and energetic and not heavy and lethargy.

After getting up have some ‘me time’. It can be in the form of yoga or meditation or running or even prayer. Whatever you want to do but that requires your attention concentrated on yourself than focusing on what to do all through the day. The coming time of the day will usually be stressful and busy so it is better to have some peace within yourself before you get out of the doors in to the world.

Students have the best retention ability when they study early morning, though it depends on individual preference. The beauty and freshness of the early morning is far better than the night. In Indian culture it is said that it is best to rise with the rising sun. The first oblique rays of the sun are good for us.

If we can follow this routine in the morning it will make a peaceful start of the day and will increase our lifespan also.
