This is not about a formula for success or money. This is for the common person like me who wants to lead an optimal life without any high flying ambition- just a simple life. Our life is just like a wheel. The strength of the wheel comes from the spokes. If the spokes are tight and strong then the journey will be smooth otherwise it will be an uncomfortable ride. I will call it the six spoke theory.

1. Body – how well you maintain your body, its strength and stamina and it also includes your diet.

2. Mind- how well you regulate your mind, gain knowledge and also rest it.

3. Love- how is your relation with your friends, colleagues, family members and spouse.

4. Work- how much satisfied are you with your work and the remuneration.

5. Money- how do you spend and save your money.

6. Entertainment- How do you keep yourself entertained, do you play any games.

How balanced a life you are leading by balancing these 6 things will determine whether your satisfaction level. If you are able to balance these things then you will smoothly sail even without doing anything which others claim to be a successful life.

How to use this in daily life? You will notice that every one of this is important in its own right and it cannot be said that one is more important than the other. Though money and work seem to be more important but if we give more importance to these two then we will be neglecting the things which balances money and work.

We generally give more time to our work and so we allocate time on the basis of the importance we attribute to a thing. If we give mote importance to work so we give more time to work. But that would be a wrong approach; rather we should allocate our energy to the different spokes of life.

When we give more time to work, we have to ensure that we give only that much energy to it which it deserves. The six spokes are taken as six equal blocks of energy. Out of the 18 waking hours if we are giving 10 hours to work then we should utilize only 1 block of energy for those 10 hours. This is real balancing because we cannot balance time allocation in a day.

Here are some guidelines.

• Give full attention to the people you love and support them. Don’t focus on quantity but the quality. You may not be able to give full attention to all your loved ones at the same time but make sure that no one is left out once in a while.

• Treat money with respect and don’t waste or squander it on unnecessary things. Understand that money will not buy you happiness, so stop running after latest fashion or new gadgets. Make your priorities clear about what you what to do with your money.

• You can entertain yourself by playing, games or watching movies or TV, Spending time with friends. Some days you will have more time for it and some days you will have less. Time is not important but what is the effect of that entertainment on you is important.

• The body is always working so it has the most wear and tear. Therefore always try to keep it fit and agile. This will help you move through the day. It is up to you what you prefer to do, it can be yoga or running or gym or any games. Though it can be tiring but it will actually rejuvenate your body.

• The mind just like the body is also always working, so it has to be regulated so that it is used properly and not misused. Therefore there is no place for negative thoughts or thoughts about situations which is beyond your control or wishful thinking. Sleep is important because it is only then that you mind goes to rest.

• Work has two purposes; it keeps us busy all through the day and also is the source of our income. It also takes the most time out of our daily routine. We therefore focus more on work and this leads to over working and stress. Give importance to work but remember it is a part of the six spokes and not the complete wheel.

To make this theory applicable in your life you have to take be careful in planning your priorities. 99 percent of the people live a normal life without any high ambitions or effort to achieve those high ambitions. But there is a difference between a normal life and an optimal satisfying life.
