High performance is synonymous with success. But the definition of success is an individual thing. But still for 90 percent of the population it is money and/ or power. For the rest it can be well being and wisdom.
My understanding is that high performance people have:
• Fulfillment – they enjoy whatever they do.
• Freedom- to do whatever they do and enjoy financial freedom out of it.
Achieving goals is not one of the points because the goal post keeps changing with fulfillment. People remember your achievement and not your goals. People more than often accept mediocrity because though they have their version of success but seldom act on it. But such people don’t like other people getting successful.
So let us see what sets the high performing ones apart.
1. Value health – Ronaldo though well over 30 now can easily put a 20 plus player to shame through his physical ability. His body fat percentage is less than maximum players of his league and even at this age he is still the topmost player. And he is a consistent performer. Though we may think that he is a professional player so he has to maintain it, but the point is that he has maintained it to the highest level even in this age. That makes him a high performer.
2. Value time- Keeping in top health increases the time he will be able to perform. The burnout and retirement will be postponed. Everyone has the same amount of time, but these people don’t waste time and they increase the productivity within the limited time. They will rest only when required. Steve Jobs when he returned changed the production line to improve the quality. Effective time management means you know what work you should do and what can be delegated. High performers know the value of time.
3. Take advice from the right people- High performers don’t take advice or feedback from any one. They will take advice only from people who genuinely care for him or are experts in that field or who use his services and products. Listening to everyone will only waste his time. It is up to him how he views those opinions and whether to take some action on it or not.
4. High energy levels- High performers have high energy levels and high positive energy levels. They can work daily with equal zest and also influence others to do so with his positive energy. This helps other to work to their full potential those increasing productivity to the maximum level in their respective fields. Their body language shows it. They will generally stand with feet four to six inch apart, hand outside the pocket, shoulders backwards and will make eye contact.
5. Learn from failure- They are not afraid of failure. They know that it is bound to come. They just take lessons out of it, rectify them and move on. Failures are just like trampoline for them. It launches them to work hard to convert the failure to success. They also do not play the blame game; rather they are good at taking responsibility and fix them. Failures are just like challenges to them.
6. Seek clarity- These people have a clear mindset, they know what to do and how to do it. They have specific questions and demand specific answers. They don’t make New Year resolutions but they do it every day. Such clarity gives the right direction.
7. Self motivated- They don’t require motivational and inspirational speakers and books. They are self motivated, always. This gives them the boost to carry on even when they reach a level of success or failure. There is no magic potion for it, it is an inbuilt character. These high performers are always consistent without any need for external dose of motivation.
This is not some magic list. It is easily attainable by all. Some have the in born capacity and for others it is a matter of making a habit. There is no shame in faking it till it forms a habit. You may not reach there in a week or month but if you are consistent then you will surely reach there. It completely depends on you.
Brilliant one
