Our mind is a source of power, because it directly influences our conscious actions. It is necessary to know how to control our mind, emotions, thoughts and feelings, focusing on our goals or desires.

Placebo Effect

It is important to highlight that the placebo effect has been determined to be the fine line that separates the mind from the body. That is, most of the sensations that our bodies experience are preceded by the mind. It is practically possible to say that what the mind creates, the body experiences.

This effect is based on the improvement or disappearance of the symptoms of some disease that carries out a treatment that has no real curative properties. What I am trying to say is that patients experience an improvement by taking harmless substances, which have no effects that can affect that disease, because the mind is responsible for convincing the body of these positive effects of the drug, these being nonexistent.

How does the Placebo Effect work?

For it to work it is necessary that two mechanisms are initiated in the patient's mind, which are the classical conditioning and the expectations. This works as follows:

  • The patient has the expectation of being cured by a specific type of medication, which conditions the response of his organism to the treatment, that is, it gives him expectations of an improvement. The greater the result, the greater the placebo effect, and the greater the conditioning.

  • For the process to be successful, other variables related to the patient's perception have an influence. An example would be that the patient's mind will tend to measure the feeling of professionalism and competence of the doctor recommending the treatment. The same happens with the placebo itself, it creates this determination in the patient and will have to do with its size, price, presentation, appearance, among others.

Personally, the mind is powerful, since it helps us in many of the areas that exist in daily life, not only in medicine. There is a phrase that is very right, it tells us "The mind creates what it believes" and it is so, everything depends on our own mind.

How can we increase our mental power?

Here below I will leave you a list of recommendations and techniques that will surely help you find or increase that power that comes from your own mind. These are:

  • Do physical activity: It is important to emphasize that exercise not only helps our body, but also our mind.

  • Stop living on autopilot: It is time to stop making hasty decisions and immediate choices, slow down, think and act based on your objectives or goals.

  • Learn something new: There is empirical learning, this comes from new experiences, giving rise to a new form of permanent knowledge that you need to bring to your conscious mind while it is happening.

  • Take a break: Going to a place you like or taking a break that helps you relax is good for your mind, to focus and rest.

  • Sleep: As I mentioned above, rest is important, therefore, proper rest contributes to the secretion of the hormones of well-being, having an adequate physical and mental condition to meet the challenges.

  • Create your goal plan and visualize it daily: Start the day dedicating 15 or 20 minutes to write down your goals or your plans for the day is not superfluous, since, it is an excellent strategic way to achieve it.
