Chapter 4

She held the tray shakily, upon arriving at his bedroom door the guard directed her to the study instead. He opened the door, she murmured a thank you and walked in.

"Good morning sir, your coffee." She dropped the tray on the stool that sat in the middle of the cushions, then bowed her head waiting for his response. She stood there for about 5 minutes without getting a reply only for her to look up and meet with an empty seat. She breathed out in relief, when she had walked in she didn't bother to look up, she had been hinted that he doesn't like making eye contact with his staffs. So she didn't realise the study was empty.

She looked around the study, it was well spaced with a large desk and sequin seat that sat close to the window. A five -seater with a matching stool sat at the middle of the room. There were shelves on every sides stacked with books . She was tempted to peek at the books, but resisted the urge not to get into trouble. She decided to go back to the kitchen and help Greta, she had barely touched the knob when she certainly crashing down on a wall, she sat on her butt looking above her. Alonso just walked past her, he was always on the phone.

"Find him and get me my money, Imbecile." He said, without waiting for a reply, hung up. Vivian stood up quickly and hurried out of the room.

"Get back here, little girl." He ordered, she stilled shutting her eyes and saying a quick prayer, then turned around walking in with her eyes to the ground.

"Read that and sign it immediately." He said dropping an office file on one of the cushions. She waited till he had sat down behind the desk before moving to pick it up. She moved to the farthest end before reading the file. It was an agreement between Andrew and Alonso, he had borrowed a huge sum of money while he stayed in Rome.

"You black pigs think you are smart right." She was shocked at the amount of venom that followed his words.

"Your uncle thinks I wouldn't get him after running back to Nigeria." He continued without looking her way. She now realised why he hated her, although she was on the verge of tears, she was to work till the debt was cleared. She didn't know how to reply, she was never one to speak up, it had only out her in more trouble. Clearly, she was going to be here for a life time due to the sum her uncle had lent from him.

"Please let me get a pen to sign it." She requested quickly cleaning the tears that had escaped her eyes.

"You can use mine. Hurry up, I don't have all day." He said finally looking at her. She nodded quickly picking a pen from the cup signed the papers and placed it close to him. She moved further from him and stood behind the cushions.

" I would make things easy for you, since you are his victim, Your salary is about 300 dollars, in a year you would be making 3,600. You should know how you want to pay me, so you would be out of here in no time." He explained, leaving his chair in a swift move, he was right in front of her. She took some steps back, she was scared, he looked too huge.

For the first time in a while, she made eye contact with him, but looked away immediately.

"I don't think I need the salary Sir, it's best you take it every month. When it's complete I would leave." She said slowly.

"As you wish, you may leave." She bowed and hurriedly left the study. She ran all the way to the kitchen clutching her chest, she felt her heart was going to pop out soon. Greta's head whipped towards her direction, she placed the muffins in the oven. Taking off her gloves, she rushed towards Vivian.

"What is it? He didn't dismiss you already, because he's going to face my wrath." She bellowed, attracting stares from other staffs.

"No he didn't, I would explain to you later." When they had served breakfast and taken care of the dishes, she explained to the elder woman, but Greta only smiled.

"What's so amusing about this? I am going to be here for about 5 years, thank God he's paying me, at least I have hope on leaving here." Greta only laughed, Vivian just smiled looking towards the window, she was going to be free soon.

"You haven't laughed this long in a while." Vivian jumped out of her seat and almost fell, she hadn't known when he walked him. He was on casual clothes and his hair was wet. Greta didn't seem bothered by his sudden appearance,

"It's nothing much, you finally decided to see me." She spoke casually looking at him.

"You know I always do when I am chanced." He replied smiling, Vivian was stunned. She had never seen him smile, he looked happy and care free. He finally looked at her, she looked at the ground quickly.

"Here's your copy of the agreement, ." He said, dropping the file and walking out of the kitchen. Greta smiled looking at Vivian. She knew she was different, but she didn't realise how different she would be to change some certain people, now she understood.
